What do I do if the house is really dirty?

I just got to a two week petsit and the house is so dirty I don't feel comfortable staying here. Floors are gross and I can't find a mop, cabinets dirty and grimy inside, bathroom full of whisker hair and toothpaste and dirty floors. Dirt in corners of all rooms. What would you do in this situation?

Would it be feasible if you only did drop-ins on the dogs or is it too far to be going back and forth each day? Regardless, I would call Rover Support and see if they'll spring for a house-cleaning service.

As I wrote on the other question, it is your responsibility to check out everything about where you will be staying. Also, if the situation changes between your inspection and when you start a job, then you are very much within your rights to tell the owner that the house needs to be cleaned before you stay there or you will need to change the level of service to drop-ins.

Okay, thank you!

You might want to consider creating an info sheet or contract about the owner needs to provide and the condition of the premises. It may not be a hotel, but Housekeeping needs to come in an clean things up before you'll move in.

That's also a good idea, thank you!! A strange situation..when I first saw the house it was dark and I didn't notice the level of filth. Plus I didn't ask for a full tour as they had company over and 4-year old triplets the evening I stopped by.

ask if they would like a housecleaning for an extra fee.

They actually have agreed to hire a housecleaner. Now I'm just waiting.
