Do you charge the holiday rate for all days surrounding a holiday?

I have a owner asking me why Rover is charging them the holiday rate for the days leading up to the holiday as well as the holiday. What do other people do with this? Do you charge the holiday rate for all days? My thought is that I should charge the holiday rate the entire time, since dog sitting would prevent me from taking a vacation on the days leading up to the actual holiday. The owner wants to pay the normal rate for every night except the holiday. How do other sitters handle this?

For airlines and hotels, that is known as peak season. For example, from December 15 through January 1st, peak season rates apply, not just one the two holiday days. The pet owner should understand that concept and it applies to pet boarding as well.

I believe that the holiday rate does default to the days/weekend surrounding that day as well, but it's up to you when you want to charge it. This is something I would discuss with the owner, and maybe see if you can come to an agreement on price. I see that, like me, you're new to the Rover community. Honestly, because you're just starting out, my best advice is to not worry too much about sticking to the holiday rate the whole time. If you negotiate with the owner, maybe you'll increase your chances of a booking/return customer. Perhaps you can tell the owner that Rover does count the holiday rate for surrounding days, but you're happy to give the normal rate on 1 or 2 etc. (your choice) of the days - especially if the owner is looking for a long stay and you can give a break like "book 3 holiday rate days, get 1 normal rate." If you do decide to adjust the rate down on the surrounding days, you can do this in the specific booking. Hope this helps and good luck!

Rover does charge the holiday rate for the entire stay when it includes the holiday rate, so that's not something you can control initially. However, you can discuss it with the prospective client. I agree with Nicole that you might offer the client a discount down to your regular rate for part of the stay. I wouldn't discount the entire stay, though.

I haven't had this situation happen yet, but since I have been working with Rover for about 6 months now and have several regular clients, I will charge clients the holiday rate for the entire stay around a holiday period. It is preventing me from going anywhere over the holiday period. I am friends with the owners of another boarding/training facility, and they charge extra for days immediately before and after holidays, as well as the holiday itself.

I don't think is fair to have to pay holiday rates for the whole time, specially if its a 2 weeks plus vacation . That is ridiculous.

This is nonsense on Rover's part to charge for holiday rate for entire booking. I am pet owner and if I am going for 20 days and you want high rate only for 3 days(long weekend) why should I pay high rate for 20 days. If provider is planning vacation then they should mark dates as not-available.
