A dog recovering from Kennel Cough?

Talk to your own vet. The owner doesn't know @#$%. Dogs are considered contagious for about two weeks. Antibiotics are commonly given for a 10-day period. So if the dog is still on his meds, then it is too soon.

As for the Bordetella vaccine, as a dog owner and sitter, I consider it minimum level of protection but know that it is no guarantee against KC.

Kennel cough is a strange thing. I vaccinated my dogs for it when I was fostering, but then stopped after exposure was pretty much constant and they never got sick. Some dogs can be vaccinated all day long, and still get it. I would say if you have other clients' dogs in your home, I personally would not keep a potentially sick animal. I would consider boarding him on his own. Technically, he should be clear after that long on ABs, but sometimes KC does relapse.

I would not accept this booking for the simple fact that kennel cough is highly contagious and the dog is most likely still contagious himself. Kennel cough is viral and there are many variations or strains so the vaccine cannot cover all of them.

I recently had an incident where I ended up with five dogs with kennel cough at once when all of them were vaccinated and I can only tell you how much of a hellish situation that was. I had to contact every owner, quarantine the whole lot of them so five dogs penned up in my home, no dog park, no running around, no fun for anyone concerned. Lucky for me I got it early and treated them all with coconut oil which is anti-viral and by the time they all got picked up none of them were coughing anymore. Still I had to steam clean my entire home, wash every blanket, sheet, couch cover to get rid of any potential germs left behind and I had to cancel two bookings just to make sure my home and personal dog would not get my client's dogs sick. And my clients had to keep their dogs away from other dogs and keep up with the coconut oil treatment so a very big hassle for them.

It was awful to hear the poor doggies coughing, it could of been very dangerous had I had dogs with compromised immune systems, it gave me tons of extra work with the cleaning and I lost revenue from two bookings. So no, I would not risk it at all.
