Questionable profile/sitting request?

I am pretty new to Rover so I am not sure if this common. I had a request from an owner to sit in home from Aug 9-20th. The profile states a member since 2016. However, the profile does not have any photos of the owner or the dog. The dog is listed as a 2.5 year old Shih Tzu, weight 6lbs. The messages from the owner stated the dog is 1.5 year old and 14lbs.

I responded and we messaged a couple of times and decided for a meet and greet. However, the owner requested to meet in my home. Which I can understand however, for my own safety I requested a public place as opposed to giving someone without any photos and a few red flags my home address. I also have several photos on my profile showing my yard and home.

The owner then stated they would get back to me if they are interested. I hate to assume the worst, but it does sound a bit suspicious to me? Or am I paranoid?

For this one, I'd suggest you contact Rover. Although they will not actually share everything they can see with you, they can review all of this person's activity since they joined, including messages to other sitters. If your time is more limited, you could also click the small flag "report this conversation" (which basically does the same thing in sending the message to Rover of hey, this looks kind of sketchy).

Since the profile was created a year ago, it's possible their pet changed or the information was incorrect, but it sounds like you made the right call to decline meeting at your home. Ideally, you can offer to meet in a public place near your home so if the meet & greet is going well, and you can offer that after we and our dogs meet each other if it seems like a good match, it's a short drive or walk to my place.

With boarding, I think most people want to see where the dogs stay. Recently I talked with someone who saw a bunch of dog crates/kennels in the sitter's garage. He figured that if he boarded his dog there, it was possible that his small dog (which had never stayed anywhere other than with family) would be in that type of environment.

Thank you for your feedback. I agree, I would always want to see where my pet is staying prior to paying or dropping him off. I would think the owner would understand safety concerns about providing a home address to a stranger on the internet. Just felt a little off to me.

Yes to being careful at all times.

I have also noticed that some profiles transferred from DogVacay are incomplete. I nearly lost one client because their Rover profile indicated their pup was not spayed or housetrained; I was surprised and asked directly, and the client had no idea their information was not correct/complete! Something got lost in the transition. (I did contact Rover about that.)

You may wish to ask your potential client if they were originally with DogVacay. That may be why you see no pictures.
