What is the "Harness test"? Do I need my own harness or leash? Do I need my own for dog walking?

When I signed up to be a dog walker, I noticed that there would be a In-person harness test. What actually happens in this test? Do I need my own harness? Do I need my own harness and leash to walk the dogs?
