Stays longer than 24 hours?

Hello Rover community!

When you board a dog in your home for more than 24 hours, do you typically charge for an extra day? Say the dog is dropped of in the morning on Monday, and picked up in the evening on Tuesday.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I charge for a day of daycare or half a day of daycare. It prevent's me from taking another client the longer they don't pick up their dog.

Each sitter sets his or her own rates and booking policies. Some charge for time beyond the 24 hours, some don't. This is something that should definitely be discussed at the M&G or via message and the price set prior to the stay being booked. Keep in mind that they are taking up time and space and still require care for all the time from dropoff to pickup, and if there is a long time past the 24 hour time, you are well within your rights to charge a daycare fee. I have a sliding scale depending on the time involved, with anything over 12 hours getting another night boarding fee added.

Rover technically charges by night, so I stick with that because it's easier and the most transparent why to handle pricing on the site. When owners search for you, they search for the days they are looking for and Rover quotes them a price. I don't want to deal with having to tell owners that I'm going to charge them more than the quote, so I stick with the quote. As an owner myself I also wouldn't be happy being quotes one price and then being told it would be more.

I know some people do decide on more complex pricing structures. I don't like that, but it's your business to do with what you please.

I agree 100% with Cari. I would add, I give people a price sheet at the meet detailing the extra fees with what times. Some people have such low maintenance dogs that I don't charge them. I will definitely do it with dogs that require more and are high energy. I also find adding on those extra fees helps people to be on time for drop-off and pick-up
