Did you ask apartment permission to dog sit?

Have any dog owners had trouble with apartment managers for having extra dogs? Did you get management's permission to dog sit? If you did, did they increase your pet rent? Or do they require that you notify them for every dog that you watch? If you didn't ask permission, have you recieved any warnings for having more dogs than are on your lease?

My lease includes the following clause: You may use the Apartment, Common Areas and Amenities for residential purposes only, subject to applicable law. ... You further agree not to conduct any business in the Apartment, including, but not limited to, child care activity for hire.

My building has a 24-hour concierge desk that I must walk by every time that I take the dogs outside. I haven't gotten any warnings, but there were certainly some raised eyebrows when I walked by with 4 pugs. I'm wondering if it's better to ask forgiveness than permission.

I would make sure you are in compliance with your apartment requirements. While there are times when the asking forgiveness approach makes sense, I don't think this is one of them. You don't want to risk losing your lease

I did not ask permission, but 2 years in I haven't had any problems. I make sure to keep things within the rules of the complex though. We have a max limit of 2 dogs per apartment, so I never take more than one dog in addition to my own and follow all breed restrictions.

I did not I feel as though we pay to live here so we should not have to though I do TRY to follow breed restrictions and talked to my neighbors and offer sitting for them at a discount but I pay to much money to not be able to have a legal business just my opinion tho.

It is better to get permission. I lived in an apartment 1 year ago. I did ask for permision at the first time, like if it is ok for me to have my friend's dog stay for a week or two. They said yes, that is ok. But the staff saw me time to time have more dogs, they requested me to register the pet and pay the pet fees. I also have to follow the rules of pet, like no aggressive dog breed, only 2 dogs per household...

I asked permission from my unit's landlord, before I started with DogVacay which I was on before they were bought by Rover earlier this year. My landlord approved it because we have been good renters with our own dog for several years. My landlord did ask us to limit the stays to only 2 dogs aside from our own boy (there is a 3 dog per unit regulation) and also that the dogs were up to date on shots, housebroken, not a banned breed and spayed/neutered - all things that we agreed to in having our dogs when we signed our rental agreement. These are also things we already would want in the dogs we would be watching, potty training puppies can be tough ;)

I would ABSOLUTELY get permission. It wouldn't need to be complex, simple is better. "Fyi I probably am going to be watching my friends dogs from time to time. Is that okay or any restrictions I should know about?" I would also ask what they mean by "business"...."do you mean I can't sell products? Or pet care? Or?"

That is your home. They would be 100% be within their right to come in seize the dogs, take them to whatever shelter they want (where they would be put up for adoption or euthanized) and evict you. If need be, just do the other 3 services that are "away": house sitting, dropins, walking.
