How to know if you can trust a client?

Hey sitters! I just started my profile with Rover. I have years of experience sitting for clients, but they were all through word of mouth. This is my first time using an online service. I am generally a friendly open-minded person, but began having skeptical feelings toward a potential client and want to know if these feelings are justified or any advice you all may have. My client contacted me a week ago to set up a meet and greet (which we scheduled). Her profile is fairly empty, with only a little information on her dog. None on her. Is it normal to see no information at all about the owner besides their name? She responded within minutes, as did I when she messaged me during the week. Then about one hour before the M&G she tells me her husband will be coming instead of her for the M&G (no reason given) Then asked for a personal phone number for her husband to reach me at. I told her the number she had through Rover was my phone number and he could reach me there. She said he would be late, I said that would not be be a problem. Then about 10 minutes before the meet and greet she messages me to tell me she needs to reschedule because she got into a car accident. I don't know if this is real, or if she didn't know how to cancel without making an excuse. My main concern is that there is no information about her or her husband on her profile and it almost felt as if she backed out after she had already gotten my address, which has me feeling the heeby geebies. What do you all think?

It's normal to feel uneasy about clients when first starting out. After all these are strangers to you that you are (potentially) inviting into your home. Some people hold M&G away from their home so they can get a feel for the owner and dog. I never give out my personal home number, I always refer them to my Rover number. I also tell them I want all communications to be documented via the Rover website/app.

Normally clients don't put any personal information about themselves in their profile. I always ask potential clients to fill out their dog profile completely before the M&G so I can see what they are like.

Your situation: this client sounds a bit flaky to me. I would respond and say, I'm sorry to hear about your car accident. Please contact me when you are feeling better and we can reschedule the M&G and the stay request. Then archive it as 'owner didn't respond' and be done with it. They can always contact you again and send another request.

Cari, thank you so much for your advice! I did tell her "sorry for your accident! Hope you're ok. Message me again when it fits better into your schedule". She said she would, so we'll see! That's great advice about archiving, I'll be sure to remember that.

I love the advice about asking them to complete their profile. I'm going to start doing that.

Hello, I have had a lot of clients that do not have profiles filled out. I think that is normal, some folks worry about online crime, others reading their information. A client told me that recently. I let her know she could leave her business address if she did not want to leave her home address on the Rover site. I called Rover and asked for permission to let the client leave a business address. I use Rover for all my important decisions, I do not want to give out incorrect information as a sitter. However, their address needs to be somewhere if you carry insurance and you are bonded with Rover, which I am, they need to know where you will be sitting the animal/s.

I have not done boarding, I go to their homes, and I get their addresses ahead of time and I drive to their locations before I do the meet and greet. I look at the area for the purpose of safety. I think it is valuable to know where the location is before hand.

On the request for appointments there is place where you can charge $$ if they cancel and do not give you enough time. I put mine as flexible because people that usually hire Rover sitters have businesses or are retired, travel, etc. and things always come up and I want to be as flexible as I can.

So this is my first time sitting and I have booked a drop-in over the weekend. My client does not have much in his profile. I have been texting with him back and forth about the dates and times however he has neglected to give me his address or even where I will be going. Am I supposed to ask?
