I am just starting out; how do I attract or make myself more sought after for bookings?

I am finding it difficult to: A. Get booking requests in general. B. Once a booking request has happened, ensuring I am the best fit candidate so I can actually successfully perform any of my services in the first place.

Hi Lauren:

To get booking requests...advertise! You can get post cards, business cards, etc. from the Rover store and post them throughout your service area. I like to post in pet food/supply stores, and local restaurants and grocery stores with bulletin boards. You can also introduce yourself at local veterinary clinics and dog groomers and leave business cards with them. I always carry business cards with me, so when I'm standing in line to check out (wherever I'm shopping) and get chatty with the other customers in line, I can hand them a card if they are interested. To answer your second question (ensuring you are a good fit), Rover has a lot of helpful information from the Help Center, located at the bottom left of your dashboard.

Here is a meet & greet guide with a list of questions you should consider asking:

Good luck!

Hi Lauren,

Your profile pictures need some work, there are duplicate photo's of you that should be removed. To attract clients you need to have pictures of dogs on your profile, there are none. I see you signed up for Rover GO, where are the professional photo's? Finally Mary and Harvey gave you some good tips to get started, they will work if you try them. Walt

I agree with what has already been said. Additionally, I think your pricing is looking a little wonky- it doesn't make sense to me that it is $33 to have a dog come stay with you for less than 12 hours but only $20 for a 24 hour overnight stay in someone else's home.

Agreed with Mary here, however I would like to add that being genuine and not handing the card to everyone is important. Timing is everything. Your delivery of business cards needs to be exceptional as in a grocery store checkout if you handed me a business card saying I win $100 I will think that is too creepy and just throw it away. However, to each their own. You need to be the judge as whether that is the right move.

Now, I started about 10 days ago and I have more requests coming than I can fulfill. I may even quit my job to pursue this full time. I have yet to print a single business card. The first thing I did was got my neighbor to sign up and gave him $20 promotion and walked his dog a couple of times. I got my first 5 star review. That alone put me from 4th page on my local listing to 1st page although ranked 18. But I kept my communication under a few minutes, had 100% booking rate and finally I can't stress this enough, pass Rover 101 courses and get a CPR certification. After adding these two, I was on Rank 5 on first page for my area. All my clients have approached me organically. So I would say getting 5 star review is highly important, using rover app and getting those certificates is too. If you still are not getting any business, follow Mary's advice. I only suggested these so it doesn't overwhelm you with all the work you need to put in to get a client. Eventually you would want to, as you will want to keep a small list of clients but the dogs you are much more comfortable with.

Hey Harvey, went to HS in JC, go Snyder

Hey Harvey! So glad that you are having success in your first month- very exciting! As a heads up, Rover pushes new sitters to the front of search for their first little bit on the site in order to help get them started. Not sure if this is related but don't want you blindsided if rank changes.

Walt, I am originally not from Jersey city but Go Snyder!!

Paige, Sure my point is mostly about people just starting out. They might be skeptical at first whether it is a good idea to invest the time and money into it. My suggestion is test the waters, try it out and if you get 1-2 clients then definitely go full on marketing.
