Increasing rates by how much?

I have been a sitter for a few months now. I have recieved a lot of 5 star reviews and repeat clients. Currently, my rate is on the lower end in my area. I have a lower rate than many new sitters with no reviews or repeat clients. I want to increase my rate to reflect my experience. By how much should I increase my rates?

Hi Laryssa,

There is no hard and fast rule to making a rate increase, it becomes a personal decision. If you raise them too high you'll be excluded by many potential clients as being too expensive and they will contact other sitters for the service they require. If you keep them too low you will be sought after by the cost conscious clients and others who think if you charge so little you won't provide quality care.

I looked at your area and what other sitters are charging and I think your current rates are in line with your competition, sort of right in the middle, which in my opinion is a good place to be. When I look at the high rate charging sitters I find only a few repeats clients or reviews. Having consistent clients brings in a good income, so think about the big picture.

I agree! And you can even look around a vet clinics and local boarding places to see what the brick-and-mortar locations are charging, as well. (to give you a comparison) Choose a price that you feel is fair to you, and fair to the area.
