How do I get my first client?

I recently signed up. I am based out of San Diego. If anyone wants to take a look at my fees and profile to offer any feedback that would be great! How do I get my first client? I feel a little lost in the dark here.

Thanks! Peace and Love

Hi, Kimberly! Welcome to Rover! This question has been asked here many times before, you may want to read through several threads. For now, here are my suggestions for getting started: It does take time to receive your first client. I would suggest taking the Rover 101 course, as the badges help in your search ranking. Plus, once completed, you can use the code FREE100 in the Rover store to receive 100 free business cards! You can use these to hang on community bulletin boards (such as at dog parks, pet stores, or even places like Starbucks) and share them with friends/family/past non-Rover clients to hand out as a referral. You can also consider sharing your profile on sites like Facebook, Craigslist, and Nextdoor. As a new sitter, you should get a boost in the rankings initially to help you get started. There are a lot of factors that play into getting clients, though. These include how many other sitters are in your immediate area, the demand for the services you provide, your availability, and even the timing. Since the holidays are coming up, make sure to select your availability for the holidays as soon as possible. I think that word of mouth is key, so if you have others that can brag about you and attest to your responsibility and ability to care for their pets, you should be able to get going from there. I highly recommend sending out testimonial requests so that you can have a few reviews visible on your profile. I would also beef up your description, is there information you can share about your 15 years of experience? Maybe also remove one of the 2 selfies and add more photos of dogs to your photos on your profile. Are you certified in pet massage; if so, you could add a photo of your certificate to your photos as well. After you get your first Verified Stay with a great review, I think you will have an increase in requests. Good luck!

Tell the reader why they should pick you to care for their dog. What makes you special? What will they be doing while at your house? Do your dogs get along well with new dogs? I have found in the Dallas area that most owners prefer to board their dogs at the sitter's home, and I see you don't offer that. That may not be a problem, but I wanted to mention it.

Look at other sitters' profiles in your area to get an idea of what to include in your writeup. Yours does seem a little short. I would also check rates in your area and price yourself $2-3 lower at first to attract new clients.

It just takes a little time to get your first client. With the holidays coming up you may be getting some requests, as some sitters fill their calendar quickly or are not available.
