I don't have a regular work schedule so my available days are random, is this ok?

Hi! I work full time at Whole Foods and I do not have a regular schedule. Will it be an issue if I have random and inconsistent availability?

That depends on the wishes and expectations of your clients. You may have a harder time getting requests that work out for you, having the limits on your availability. Some clients may mind that you aren't able to spend every day at their house with their pet(s) (if you offer House Sitting), or that you are gone full-time hours (if you offer Boarding). Having a full-time job limits your availability for the other services as well. I'm not saying you wouldn't also be able to be a petsitter (in addition to your job at Whole Foods), but I imagine having a full-time job would cause issues.

I work a full time job in addition to dog sitting and have only had a very small number of clients book with someone else due to my availability. Because your schedule will probably be changing each week, you'll want to make sure you keep your calendar as updated as possible.

One thing though, you may run into an issue with people wanting to book something further out than you know your schedule for. I would make sure to explain on your profile that you do work a job with varying hours, but to please message you to work something out. Be up front with potential clients and honest if you aren't sure - in my opinion you're better off turning down a job then having to cancel it. If you get a request for boarding or house sitting, make sure the owner is okay with you potentially being gone for X hours per day in case you do get scheduled to work.

I think as long as you're up front about your availability and communicate with your clients, you'll do just fine! Best of luck :)

I work full time and still dog sit. I just make sure to let prospective clients know my schedule in the first message. Most of them are fine with it since many of them work and leave their dogs at home during the day anyway. It also helps if you have a roommate or significant other who is occasionally around for company when you're not home.

I think as long as ypu are up front and honest about it you will find clients who will work with your schedule. You may get a few less clients overall but I think it's still worth it.

Make sure to mention how much love and attention they will get in between your work hours! I also like to explain how I walk and/or feed the dogs (depending on feeding schedule) right before I leave and right when I get home so they have the smallest amount of inactivity possible.

My schedule seems to work especially well with small apartment dogs who do not need a lot of exercise but I've also had larger, more energetic ones without problems.

Good luck!
