“Katherine is an amazing dog sitter! My dog absolutely loved her. She took him on several walks, spent lots of time playing with him, and gave him plenty of snuggles. It gave me peace of mind knowing he was so well cared for. I will definitely be booking Katherine again!”

About: I grew up caring for all kinds of animals and have always loved it. I have cared for farm animals as well as house pets. I have a cat myself who is a little demon at times but is also very loving. I am comfortable around large animals as well as young animals. For me this wouldnt just be me offering a service it would also be a experience I would enjoy. I am flexible, but am also only doing this for a few extra dollars . I am not willing to take animals overnight as I have animals at my home, but have no problem going to your home. I would also be comfortable giving updates and pictures of your furry family members if you are gone for long periods of time.
“Meaghan is the best! Second time having her care for my pets, she did an over night visit this time. She’s very caring, sweet and respectful- highly recommend her services to others. My animals loved her.”

“Was our first time doing this, and was the first time for our puppy. We have previously never hired anyone for our previous dog besides family. Great communication and updates with pics and videos during her stay. She was able to fold up the crate for us when we asked her at the last minute. Had some play dates with other dogs that she knew of nearby! We would definitely recommend Mackenzie!”

About: Hello everyone ! My name is Lyla Waycott. I’ve got on Rover to fill up my spare time spending time with animals and making some extra cash. I work full time at Mountain View Stables in Norton, therefore my schedule is limited primarily to late afternoons and evenings. That being said, I can accommodate early morning (before 7am) walks/drop-ins. If you take a look through my photos you’ll get a glimpse of my herd! I have one horse, three dogs and two cats. That being said, I’m quite comfortable with a variety of different species. Big & small, I love them all! I also have experience administering medication to horses, dogs and cats. Thanks to a fair amount of life experience I’m quite capable and knowledgeable with animals, though always eager to learn more!! I look forward to hearing from you and your furry family members, if you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to reach out!! Talk soon. Take care, Lyla && the herd ❤️ As mentioned above, my availability is primarily late afternoons (after 4pm) and evenings. Though I can make early mornings (before 7am) work as well. I already have a schedule set in place with my animals, so I’m just looking to squeeze in a few extra hours of “work” in with Rover a week!! I will always do my best to make your animals comfortable with my presence and to make our visits as enjoyable and fun for us both as possible. I’m comfortable with and able to crate dogs after my visit if need be, I have experience using shock collars and walking reactive dogs if either things are a concern. I will always respect any safety measures you have in place.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - St. John
Ella was the most wonderful sitter for our dog Raffi and we couldn’t be happier with the care he received! Raffi is a young, rambunctious GSP pup who can be a bit of a handful, and this was our first time leaving him behind while we travelled. Ella came to meet him in advance and we could immediately see she would be a great fit! She is calm, caring, responsible and clearly loves dogs! Ella took Raffi on nice long trail walks and kept us updated with messages and photos. Raffi was calm and content when we returned home and our house was perfectly tidy. We highly recommend Ella to anyone else looking for a sitter and we hope to have her come stay with Raffi again soon!

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in St. John maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred St. John walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in St. John choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
