My parents also like to keep their house clean even when my brother's dog visits, and I always help clean any messes made including wet paw prints or muddy shoes! I will also be aware that some dogs are nervous and require time to adjust to me entering their space, so spending some time in their comfort area may allow them to trust me better, before taking them out for a walk or having a play date.
