Sometimes, the surroundings make the pub, and The Fox House‘s position amidst public footpaths and moorlands on the edge of the Peak District makes it superb as a dog-friendly pit stop before or after walkies. With treats at the entrances and water bowls scattered throughout the spacious, fenced patio area, this 18th-century resting post also stands up as a beauty spot in its own right.
Surprisingly, this pub is actually not named after dogs’ orange canine cousin but an 18th-century farmer called Mr. Fox. Still, the staff love to give dogs a bit of a fuss, and their friendly nature ensures The Fox House’s presence in this year’s list.

Not just an amazing spot for delicious food and outstanding beer, The Fox and Hounds is also a dog-friendly highlight. The staff at this gorgeous rural pub offered water bowls with fresh water, dog treats, and snacks. The staff love dogs and were very happy to welcome the reviewer’s excitable husky.
The dog-friendly service was no-frills, offering just water and treats, but what set this apart as the region’s winner was the staff’s thoughtful gestures: bringing water to the reviewer and offering to seat them at a quiet table, allowing their dog to relax.

Need a dog sitter in Yorkshire?
Some dogs don’t react well to a pub environment. If you think loud noises, groups of other humans, and other dogs could potentially trigger anxiety in your dog, it might be kinder to leave them at home for some calmer downtime. Rover dog sitters are on hand to take great care of them, letting you relax during your pub trip.
