Every dog is unique. But some personality and behaviour traits are shared among similar dogs. Inspired by the Myers-Briggs personality test and Jungian archetypes, we’ve established six distinct canine personality types.

Caveat: we did our reading, but this is all in good fun—it’s not to be taken as a serious assessment of canine temperament. For that, check out our article on temperament testing by a canine behaviourist. For more on understanding dog body language, go here.

A word on archetypes, first: famed psychologist Carl Jung believed that archetypes are universal, mythic characters that exist in people’s subconscious, and represent fundamental parts of human experience. Each type has its own set of values, meanings and personality traits. To be fair, we’re simplifying things here! For more, check out this in-depth explanation.
