Rover is calling dog owners to apply for ‘the best job in the world’ – a once-in-a-lifetime, paid road trip to help crown the UK’s ulti-mutt dog-friendly pub for 2025.

As Rover’s official ‘Public House Officer’, you and your four-legged sidekick will spend July visiting up to 110 pubs across the UK, rating them on their dog-friendly credentials – from water bowls and doggy biscuits to tail-wagging service and atmosphere.

This comes as new research from Rover reveals that a whopping 90% of British dog owners say their pooch is their dream colleague, with 81% claiming their dog lifts their mood better than any co-worker could.

Seeking: Public House Officer – The Great British Pup Crawl*

Description:

We are on the lookout for a passionate dog lover to take on the role of Public House Officer for The Great British Pup Crawl. This one-of-a-kind road trip will see you and your canine companion travel across the UK, visiting up to 110 pubs over the span of four weeks this July. Your mission? To sniff out the best dog-friendly pubs and rate them on key criteria such as:

  • Dog-friendly amenities (water stations, treats, etc.)
  • Space and comfort for dogs
  • General atmosphere and staff friendliness towards pets

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visit pubs and inns across the country with your dog(s)
  • Evaluate the venue’s dog-friendliness based on set criteria (e.g., water bowls, dog treats, staff attitude, space, noise level, pet safety)
  • Engage with pub staff to gather insights about their pet policy and hospitality culture
  • Document experiences through written reviews, photographs, and short videos
  • Score and report findings (using a scorecard that we’ll provide) 

Requirements:

  • A confident and sociable dog owner with at least one well-behaved dog.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel nationwide
  • Strong communication skills for documenting and sharing experiences
  • Social media savvy – able to capture engaging content, with active social accounts
  • Must be willing to speak to media and be photographed by media outlets

Perks:

Terms and Conditions: 

Seeking: Public House Officer – The Great British Pup Crawl (“Competition”) is operated and promoted by DogBuddy UK Ltd, of 5 New Street Square, London, EC4A 3TW (“Promoter”), a subsidiary of A Place for Rover, Inc.  

Eligibility:  The competition to become the Rover “Public House Officer” is open only to legal residents of the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) who are over the age of 18 and own a dog. Directors, officers and employees of Promoter and any of its respective affiliate companies, subsidiaries, agents, professional advisors, development and promotional partners, and advertising and promotional agencies, and immediate families of each, are not eligible to enter. 

Competition Period: The competition period of entry will begin at 9:00 am [GMT] on Monday 2nd June 2025 and end at 6:00 pm [GMT] on Wednesday 18th June, 2025 (“Competition Period”). Entries received after this time will not be valid.  

How to Enter: 

 Complete the online application form including 100 words summarising a bit about yourself and your dog, and why you think you’d be perfect for this role. 

The Promoter will not accept responsibility for entries that do not reach the Promoter due to technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.

By submitting an entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these Official Rules. 

Limit on Entries.  There is a limit of one (1) entry per person, regardless of method of entry.  

Judging Criteria: 

1 winner will be selected to become the Public House Officer 

Winning individual will be judged by Rover Expert, Adem Fehmi and will be evaluated on:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Quality of visuals
  • Emotional storytelling
  • Relationship with dog
  • Dog happiness

Prize: 

The winning individual will be responsible for:

  • Working with Rover team to identify suitable pubs for judging – pubs must show indication of basic dog friendly elements (such as dogs being allowed inside/ providing dog bowls) on website/ pub social channels
  • Visiting each pub and completing a questionnaire provided by Rover
  • Taking social media friendly photographs of their dog and dog friendly facilities provided by the pub
  • Submitting the questionnaire and images to Rover no later than 1 week after each pub visit 

Remuneration: Rover will pay the winning individual £6,000 for a 4-week road trip and £1,000 for expenses. This will be paid in 2 parts, £3500 at the start of week 1 £3500 at the end of the 4-week period.

General Terms and Conditions: The Competition and these Official Rules will be governed, construed and interpreted under the laws of England and entrants to the Competition submit to the jurisdiction of the English courts.  

Any provision of these Official Rules deemed unenforceable will be enforced to the extent permissible, and the remainder of these Official Rules will remain in effect.   

Promoter shall not be responsible for late, lost, illegible, incomplete, damaged or misdirected entries.  If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these Official Rules, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the Competition.

Promoter reserves the right to amend these Official Rules or to terminate the Competition where it becomes necessary to do so.  If such amends become necessary, Promoter will inform and provide an overview of the relevant amendments to all participants by email. By submitting an entry, you agree that Promoter or its partners may contact you regarding the Competition and may send  you other promotional content. Promoter may share information collected in connection with this Competition with its affiliates for the purposes of administering the Competition in accordance with these Official Rules and to inform you of other promotions, all subject to Promoter’s Privacy Statement. 

By entering this Competition you agree that the Promoter can use your name, photograph, likeness, details of the country and/or city where you live, any comments made by or attributed to you for the sole purpose of promoting and marketing the Competition, including but not limited to, any audio/visual recording or broadcast for such promotional purposes, in any media, throughout the world.  

By entering the Competition, entrants (i) confirm that they have complied with these Official Rules and are eligible to enter the Competition, and (ii) agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of Promoter, which are final and binding in all respects.
