Can My Dog Eat Bacon?

  • Not a substitute for professional veterinary help.

Yes, but it’s not ideal. Dogs love bacon, of course! And it’s not going to hurt your dog in small amounts. However, bacon is high in fat and sodium. Fatty, salty foods aren’t good for your dog, and too much can lead to obesity or heart-related diseases. Some dogs are especially sensitive to fatty foods. If your dog vomits after eating bacon, call your vet and avoid giving bacon in the future.

As a small treat in moderation, bacon is fine for most dogs. In general, however, it’s preferable to give lean proteins like cooked bits of chicken or fish.
