Veterinary Professional

I have reviewed Pet First Aid through the American Red Cross as well as Pet CPR through eCornell & I hold a B.S. in Zoology from NCSU. Starting in 2019 I worked full time at a cat clinic as a vet assistant for 5 years (now part time.) My love for rescue work led me to switch over to the medical team at the local SPCA, where I have been full-time for 2.5 years now. While enrolled at NCSU, I worked on a mobile vaccine clinic for 2 years and I have been pet sitting since I was a teenager. I was ten years old when my neighbors entrusted me with the care of their farm for several days to weeks at a time. My skill set includes fear-free/low-stress handling techniques, species appropriate feeding and husbandry, oral and injected medication administration- including subcutaneous fluids, IM injections, and insulin. I will be happy to keep your pet’s sophisticated medication schedules & routines on track. While I am comfortable and knowledgeable with many species, cats are my specialty and I am certified through the American Association of Feline Practitioners with a Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional certificate. I grew up across the street from a small farm and developed a strong bond with animals of all types at an early age. I have cared for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, small animals, and an assortment of farm animals. I would love to care for any of these exotics through Rover. Individual pricing for multi-species households available. Grooming rate includes bath, nail trim, and ear cleaning.

Safety, trust & environment

A word to all the anxious fur parents: I work in the veterinary field, have had a variety of my own animals over the years (most with medical conditions requiring extra patience, daily medications, and attention to detail,) and I regularly foster special needs pets from the shelter. I am passionate about the general well being of critters and having the opportunity to make a career out of it via multiple pathways is pretty great. Just tell me exactly what you’d like me to do for the fur kids and consider it done…love and cuddles are of course not negotiable. References are available - including those of the veterinarians and technicians I work with on a daily basis.

I'm a first time Rover user! Thank you Maria for providing Henry with such loving care and attention. He had all the basics covered - water, food, treats and then he was scratched, petted and loved on too! Best of all I really appreciated Maria taking the time to communicate with me and sending pictures to let me know how Henry was doing! Thankyou!

There are not enough good things I can say about Maria. She is such a kind human and caring petsitter with the best, most detailed visit notes. One of our three cats is diabetic and needs twice daily insulin shots, there is no one else I would trust on Rover while we’re away from home!

Maria was wonderful caring for our two pups and visiting with our senior kitty while we were out of town. Everything went great and we will certainly work with her again.

Schedule

PLEASE NOTE: My midday availability is very limited and is fully dependent on you living very close to my home. Early morning and late evening drop-ins are my most popular bookings and can have anywhere from 8 to 14 hours in between, depending on the work day. If your pet is on time sensitive medication such as insulin or requires specific hours between visits for any other reason, we will discuss scheduling and availability on a case to case basis. Please note that distances that require I travel longer than 15 minutes one way will result in an extra fee.

All animals are individuals with distinct personalities and quirks. Please keep me in the loop when it comes to your babies’ likes, dislikes, triggers etc. so I may tailor my care specifically to them.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
