Leah can care for
Availability
I have open availability with no external obligations, save for I have two cats of my own. If I am housesitting I would need to step away for an hour or two to stop in at home and tend to my herd.

Safety, trust & environment
I am quite fond of all animals, and love to talk to them as I’m interacting. I like to take things slow and let the animal set the tone. I prefer dealing with indoor only cats, as I find an outdoor cat presents too many variables for a sitter to handle if something goes wrong. Dogs are only outdoors in a fenced yard or on leash. I would not trust that a dog would have recall with a stranger so I’d prefer to be safe.
Information Leah H. would like to know about your pet
If your pet has any resource guarding issues, recall issues, problems with other dogs, etc, please let me know upfront so we can all plan for success! If you have a preferred emergency vet please make that know as well.
A typical day
I love to speak with and interact with the pets I’m caring for. I have tendency to narrate what I’m doing! Lots of cuddles, grooming, and playing with favourite toys.

Pet care experience
I’ve worked with animals professionally for 10 years. I worked at Catfe in Vancouver from its opening for three years. Catfé was partnered with the SPCA and I eventually began to work for the Vancouver branch of the BCSPCA. During this time I worked with a wide variety of animals on a daily basis. We mainly cared for dogs, cats and smalls like rabbits and mice, but I have also encountered/provided care for geese, ducks, chickens, swans, songbirds, hedgehogs, axoltols, snakes, tortoises, and more. I was trained to be a dog temperament assessor, and have experience working with dogs (and cats) who have been removed from traumatic situations. I have experience dealing with aggressive dogs. I also have experience interacting with dogs recovering from serious medical conditions (like amputations or TPLO surgeries). I am certified in Fear Free handling techniques. I have experience administering oral, topical, and subcutaneous medicines. I have experience vaccinating animals and providing IV fluids. I have fostered litters of kittens, both with and without the momma, and have experience bottle feeding neo-natal kittens. I was Branch Manager of the Campbell River BCSPCA from 2022-2023, overseeing and managing the care of all animals in the branch.

Reviews

Leah communicates super well, sent pics of Karl along the way. House was clean and tidy when we returned. Thanks Leah!

I have had Leah house sit my senior cat several times and each time has been fantastic. She sends photos and detailed notes every day. I have no issues leaving my cat in Leah’s care and will definitely request her again next time I am going out of town.

Leah was with my dogs for 5 nights. My dogs were well cared for, and happy when I arrived home and I received updates while I was away. I will definitely use Leah again.

Leah did an amazing job of helping watch both our senior medical needs dog and our brand new puppy while we were at work and they were learning to adjust to each other. She eased our minds while we were at work knowing our boys were in good hands and it helped our puppy become potty trained so much faster. If he did have accidents in his enclosure before she arrived that day, Leah was so nice; she cleaned the mess up for us. I would highly recommend Leah to anyone in need with any age dog.
