Training is bonding!

Hi, I'm Erica and I grew up in Brazil. When I was 6yo I got my first dog, a sweet beagle-poodle mix, Junior. We had great 10 years together before he crossed the rainbow bridge. In 2014 I moved to fairfax county, VA. In 2018 while volunteering with Operation Paws for Homes all through northern VA, I took an interest in obedience training as a way to help my foster dogs have a better chance at staying with their adopters, as I noticed a lot of dogs would get returned to the rescue for normal dog behavior. So I took that opportunity to welcome those returned dogs into my home, and teach them the skills they needed to have a greater chance of a lasting adoption. Dogs are wonderful loving creatures, and I just love the love you get from them. In 2020 I got my dog training certification through Animal Behavior College, and in 2022 I joined PetSmart as a trainer, being promoted to Area Trainer in 2025. Today I teach obedience group classes at PetSmart, but I’m also looking to expand my training business beyond the PetSmart brand.

Boarding • Jul 14, 2026

We are SO glad that we boarded Valentina with Erica and Kyle! They have the sweetest family and Valentina loved her time with them so much that she didn’t want to leave! She had tons of play time with their little dog and their children and lots of training time with Erica and Kyle. They also kept us updated with daily photos, videos, and texts. They are the best!

Erica was our trainer in a class for our puppy and was fantastic! Our class had the most diverse pups (Great Dane mix, Italian greyhound, a doodle, and more) and an even wider variety of personalities and ages! She managed the class with patience, obvious expertise and kindness - personalizing engagement for each dog and being very hands on with the training. She was great and I would recommend her without thinking twice!

Schedule

I currently work full time at PetSmart, however my partner is available at home for potty breaks, play and snuggles during the day when I’m unavailable. Our resident dog gets at least 3 walks per day, and short visits to the dog park depending on weather. Our building has a small dog park, and we live a short walk away from Canis Major dog park in Reston, so your dog can get out and stretch their legs wether they are social or not.

Safety, trust & environment

I live in a small apartment, so crate training is essential for everyone’s safety, especially for puppies that are still potty training. A typical day for us is waking up and going for a walk usually around 8am. Then breakfast in the crate, and rest to digest the food. Then play time which can be dog park visit or playground with the little humans. Another potty walk around lunch time, depending on weather and schedule but usually between 12-2pm. Depending on your pup’s energy level in the afternoon we can play fetch or relax on the couch. Or if they are doing a training stay, this is when the video recorded training session would happen. Dinner is given around 6pm. Last walk between 8-10pm. Sleep in the crate for all dogs’ safety.

Pets

A typical day

While staying with me your dog will get mentally stimulated through training. I can work on basic obedience behaviors, as well as fun tricks depending on your dog. For higher energy dogs, I live just 10min walk from Canis Major dog park, and my building also has a dog run.
