I’ve been taking care of animals since I was a little kid - it was such a personal passion that I studied Animal Science in college, where I earned a BS degree in the subject from Cornell University in 2010. During my high school and college years, I spent summers working at vet clinics as well as the local barn where I grew up riding. Those experiences allowed me to expand my animal care skills beyond what I had learned from personal pet ownership. After college, I was the on-site manager of the boarding barn in Maryland where I had worked since I was 16 - our business had approximately 50 horses boarded with us at any given time. Living there for a few years gave me a unique perspective on animal care and I gained invaluable experience - both in navigating client relationships as well as learning how to handle myself during animal health emergencies. Before moving to Virginia to start grad school at Virginia Tech, I worked as a research scientist for Pennvet in the Philly area for nearly a decade, with a focus on projects related to animal health and welfare.
