Pet care experience

Dog/Cat Owner & Rescue Worker

I recently stepped down from volunteering 7 days a week for Bridge to Home Animal Rescue located in Washington, Pennsylvania. I loved every moment. I have fostered 80+ animals, and have had personal pets all my life. Currently I have two golden retrievers and 2 rescue cats of my own. My children are learning to have empathy, and have responsibility as I did when I was a child. From the time I was able to work I held volunteer and paid positions in animal shelters, rescues, and helping my friends and family with sitting and training. My husband helps out often as he’s a large part of my rescue life and thankful for that. Nursing school has helped me to be involved in the vetting process for the animals, birthing puppies, and care from seniors to puppies. Cats to kittens. I can give topical, oral, and injectable medications. I’ve worked with dogs, cats, and other animals of all ages. It is my true passion in life.

Ashley is very easy to work with, professional, an interactive communicator, and just wonderful with my cats. She easily managed my one cat who has to take insulin. I hope she will be available for all my upcoming trips.

This is the first time we’ve used Rover and it’s the first time we hired a pet sitter. Ashley walked us through the process and answered all of our questions. We have four cats and one of them needs medications multiple times a day. It was hard to find a pet sitter who would come as frequently as we needed. We also liked that Ashley is familiar with giving meds. Ashley was able to come multiple times a day and she did a wonderful job, even when Ollie decided to play hide and seek on her! She also communicated a lot which put our minds at ease.

When I had to leave a special needs dog to take a quick business trip, Ashley’s skills and background really stood out. I was able to get away while knowing that my dog was safe and loved. The entire family went above and beyond to make sure that he felt that way too!

Always a wonderful time when Ashley cares for the pups! They’re all so very happy and excited looking when we come home to see that they have had such a good time while we’ve been gone! They get so much attention and love! It’s a great feeling that my babies are so well cared for each time that we are away :)

Schedule

I would work with animals 24 hours a day if I could and it is why I have not returned to a nursing position at the hospital. I handled our main page on Facebook and other socials alongside with my director for BTHAR, where I also fostered and volunteered for many years. I am stay at home parent, and my children are either in a camp, school, or with my parents when I am away from the home sitting pets. They often participate in the care provided to all animals.

Safety, trust & environment

I have an underground fenced yard with 2 friendly dogs. Both are crate, house, obedience trained and socialized with other animals. I am off of any main road and live in a quiet neighborhood near a school where we often walk the dogs and take them to play ball. They are a part of my family. The cats are dog savvy and love guests as well. I am willing to offer most services dependent upon the animals ability to coexist with animals in my home. I can provide any service needed in the homes of clients. Different times per year change my availability but it will always be updated/discussed.

Pets

A typical day

We walk an in the neighborhood, go to the park, have playtime outside and frequent mingo and cross creek. We live in a neighborhood off the main roads. I take my personal dogs to my children’s sporting events, camping and even on vacation with us. Frequent grooming. I do a lot of enrichment with personal and foster animals.

Let me know anything your pets need or love and we will take care of that for you. Medication times, walk and food schedule etc. My dogs are easy going and they have had training. If your dog has a dominant demeanor or is not altered, then I would need to do a meet ahead of time to be sure they all get along for walks, etc. Resource guarding can’t be in my home. If you need outlets for training feel free to reach out and I can let you know a couple great ones. Also- crate trained dogs are a must. They won’t be spending a great deal of time in there as I’m gone no more than a few hours at a time but they must know how to be crated so that they don’t harm or stress themselves out when you’re gone, or when I’m gone. Food aggression isn’t tolerated as I have school aged children and because my dogs do not know these behaviors and I don’t want them introduced to it.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
