asked a question Can full-time Rover employees see which clients are booked with a sitter?

I've sat for a couple of dogs whose owners actually work full-time at the Rover headquarters. Let's say I needed a break from watching their dog, and told them I was unavailable for certain dates, but really booked the dates with another client instead. Can that Rover employee go into the system and see if I booked with someone else? It just makes me feel weird sitting for Rover employees because I don't know if they can see certain things I'd rather them not see.

asked a question Why did my dog act crazy around medical marijuana?

First of all, I don't use pot in any way, shape or form. Okay, my question...

I live in Washington state where recreational marijuana is legal. I have boarded my dog with various sitters and one kennel, which my husband thought the latter was sketchy, so we won't go there again. Anyway, a friend came to stay with us, and she uses medical marijuana cookie edibles while undergoing cancer treatment. I noticed the moment she took a cookie out before bed, my dog went crazy, and tried getting at that cookie after catching a whiff of it, and followed her all over the house. He NEVER does this, never, never, never. His behavior was so unusual, that I almost wondered if someone at the kennel has given him a pot edible before to keep him calm or mellow. Or am I just overthinking it? I don't know how pot works as I've never tried it myself, so I didn't know if my dog has really had a "hit" before , or if animals just act that way around marijuana. I'm soooo sorry if this is a weird question.

answered a question My dog keeps shaking her head - is she okay?

Does your dog tilt her head to one side? If so, she probably has a yeast infection inside the ear. This is common in floppy-eared dogs, since the inside of the ear can't breathe or dry out after it becomes damp. You can purchase ear drops to rid of the infection, or, if it's really bad, the vet can prescribe something. DO NOT use Gentizol! I do not recommend it! My mother used this for her dog, and after the second use, he went 100% deaf. Ask about alternative medicines.

asked a question Who pays for the vet bill if something happens to a pet in my care?

If someone's dog or cat gets sick in my care, who is responsible for paying the vet bill? Should I create a contract saying the owner is responsible for charges? I'm confused.

marked best answer How do I purchase Rover premium insurance?

I am very confused as to how this works. I was reading up on the Rover premium insurance plan, but do I have to purchase this (and how), or is this automatically provided when someone books with me? I have the $50 yearly protection package, but I don't think that is the same thing.

asked a question Why is my client's dog afraid of the cell phone?

I am sitting for a small dog. It is very difficult to take videos and photos of her because every time I take out my phone to do so, she either slowly sits down and turns her head away, or bolts away and hides. It's hard to capture cute things she does because as soon as she sees the phone, she stops and tries avoiding it. Tonight, as I was attempting to take a video of her in the yard, she saw me with the phone, ran up the balcony, then ran inside to our bedroom, where I found her next to the bed, shaking.

Note: It isn't the sounds of the phone she's afraid of, it is the phone itself. I find myself having to hide it behind my back so she doesn't see it, then I hurry up and snap a photo.

I told the owner her dog is "camera shy", and she never commented otherwise. What is going on? Why is this happening? I've never seen anything like it.

answered a question How stringent should I be with requiring all dogs boarded at my home are up to speed with shots, annual fecal tests and flea and tick preventative?

I actually never ask for fecal tests. Just that they have rabies vaccines and are on flea prevention. I usually just go by the honor system. I quickly scan the dog for fleas anyway during meet and greets. I also only take one client at a time, and constantly clean the waste from our yard. So far, everything has been peachy keen.

answered a question meet and greet?

Don't be nervous! One of my first meet and greets didn't go well, because the dog didn't like my dog, hehe. Eventually, the owners said, "No thanks," to me, and went with another sitter. In spite of that, I am booked every week! And it is so much fun!

Here's what I do at meet and greets: When a client comes, I tell them I'd like to take our pups for a very short walk up and down the road just to give everyone a chance to know each other (this was great advice I followed from reading another sitter's comment in these threads). Following that, we go to our backyard where we take the pups off the leash and watch how they interact. This will tell me a lot. I never accept aggressive pups. Finally, after 5-10 minutes of socializing in the yard, we make our way inside the house, off leash. That way, the dog can get a feel for the lay of the land, the smells, etc.

More often than not, it works out. Very rarely do I decline someone. And when I have, it never hurt my business. It will work out for you, I promise! =) You're going to have fun with this! =)

asked a question How do you discipline a client's dog?

One of my client's dogs, though a sweetheart to me, hates my dog. She will randomly jump at him to nip his butt. How do you properly discipline a guest dog? I usually just give a firm, "No, dog's name," and point my finger. I'm not even sure that is the correct way to do it. Is there another proper, gentle technique I can practice to teach this jealous pooch that nipping other dog butts is a no-no? (She does it even when my dog isn't getting any attention. Luckily my dog is as chill as punch.)

asked a question Do you think their should be an "additional service" option for small animals?

Rover lists cats for additional services, but what if someone has a snake, rabbit, guinea pig, or another pet? Also, Rover should expand to horses (with boarding and drop-ins), cattle, other farm animals or poultry, etc, for those experienced with farming and livestock. I think this is a good idea.

What do you think?

**Now why on earth would someone down-vote this? Give me a break.

answered a question CPR a good website to get certified ?

Udemy! There's a course by Melanie Monteiro. It was extremely thorough. I can go back to it when I'm finished and refresh my mind. I even followed along by practicing on my own dog.

asked a question Has anyone ever had a client come a day late, when you are supposed to travel?

Hey guys! I know it is a bit risky, but I am visiting my sis and her new baby on March 2nd, and a client will be picking up their pup on March 1. Let's just say something happens and the client can't pick their pup up until the next day, during my flight, what would I do?

I know, I know. I didn't think this through. I'll give myself a two-day window next time. I mean, a brand-new nephew, my mind was all aflutter with excitement!
