answered a question Lady told me her dog got along with cats, but her dog is NOT getting along with my cat. What do I do?

Just because a dog gets along with his cats at his house does not mean that they will get along with your cats. As a Ro...

answered a question seeking sitter with skill set of manual expression?

I would talk to your vet about a vet tech at their office that offers pet care. or board your dog at your vet. You jus...

commented question Concerned about dog safety and uncomfortable with caring for a seriously ill dog, what should I do?

The puppy needs to be boarded at a vet. And Rover should have told the clients that. ...

answered a question What protocol do you follow when a dog bites you or your child?

I guess my biggest concern here is that you are so much more concerned about the dog than your child.

answered a question New Client, Semi Last Minute Sit, "Will Pay When I Get My Paycheck"?

Without a completed booking, you are not protected by Rover Insurance. That should help to ramp up your game face when dealing with a potential client that seems to have trouble paying for services or any other odd requests or red flag issues.... Someone's finances are not my business and the very minute I start to hear anything at all about financial issues I tune it out and just repeat that the booking be complete before drop off or before I can come to the house for the first drop in visit. Keep all communication on the Rover page to protect yourself from any "he said/she said" problems. ....

answered a question Is everyone doing boarding without a meet and greet?

Absolutely do not take a booking for any service without a M&G. I can list the 100 reasons why but common sense practices should guide you in your decision making. If you are losing a few potential clients because your business depends on mature and best practices like a M&G, oh well, too bad. You don't need clients that don't play by the rules anyway. Remember, you will always be more successful in the long run by using best practices and tried and true guidelines for pet sitting. Pay attention to sitters that have been doing this a while. Their mentorship should be very helpful to becoming a really good pet sitter. Good Luck and do the right thing. This is not about losing money. It's about being a really good and responsible pet sitter!

commented answer How do I handle an upset owner who never canceled their booking?

I have never had a problem contacting Rover support, anytime day or night and they are so helpful. It's a phone call away!

answered a question Anyone seen this type of client response?

Lol I have 2 clients that do that and I think it is cute.

answered a question Does anyone know what the going rate for boarding a rabbit?

I do not think any pets other than dogs and cats are covered under the Rover Guarantee so that is why there is no way to list them on the booking...you could use your additional dog or cat rate... That bunny would not be running lose about the house on my watch either! Of course, I only board dogs. If other pets are involved, I have had owners board the dog with me and I do drop in visits for the rest of the zoo. (and use the cat rate)

answered a question What to do with anxious dog with separation anxiety?

Safety gates really help instead of using closed doors especially for anxious pups! Walk through gates were the first items I started purchasing when I started boarding dogs in my home...You can get used ones for cheap on Craigslist.... And yes! Have them bring a used pillow case or tee shirt with them for any first time or anxious boarders.

commented answer What is the average cost for 3 dogs on a drop in visit?

If the pups wee wee in the house, I would ask the owners to provide pee pads.

answered a question Any sitters with cats?

You better be so careful and maybe consider keeping your cats in a spare room when you have guest dogs. When I first started boarding, and my cats were use to my dogs and neighbor dogs and would hide in the spare room whenever a dog they didn't know was here. But one day a guest pup decided to chase the cat sitting in the hallway and long story short, his eye got scratched bad enough that he had to have surgery, yes covered by Rover insurance and I certainly offered to pay the $500 deductible but the client was so nice and kind he covered it. But I never got to keep that wonderful dog again. I was broken hearted. Guess what? My cats now live outside and have access to the laundry room and heated cat houses, lots of great food and I bring them into a spare room if the weather is really bad, but I keep enough dogs now on a regular basis that I had to commit to safety first for my guest dogs without any restrictions. I make my living 100% pet sitting, so my home is set up 100% for the dogs. Not me, not my cats, not decorating, no rugs, nothing extra....it's a wonderful lifestyle because I am low maintenance anyway, but sorry kitties...I love you but you don't pay the bills and my reputation is more important! You should never assume what you think "get along with" means...cats have damaging claws. Dogs can kill or hurt a cat quicker than you can stop them if they are so inclined and so you are playing with fire if you mix guest dogs with your cats ever.
