answered a question Do I need to give her a vitamin supplement if so what should I give her?

I take care of 2 dogs who eat from a company called JustFoodForDogs.com. It's certified for human consumption by the USDA. They mainly eat the chicken and rice or turkey burger with noodles. The website has information or links about making your own food and what vitamins and supplement to add.

answered a question Best tips for sitting barkers?

It sounds like it might be separation anxiety. Is the barking mainly when you leave the room? Or when the dog isn't getting your full attention? I used to be a house sitter for many years but now do pet sitting in my home. I see it frequently with pet sitting but not when I was house sitting in the dogs own home.

answered a question Why are sitters hard to find?

As for myself this is the busiest time of the year. July 2-July 18 I'm completely booked and have been for some time. Even though my calendar is booked I had to manually go in to adjust it to unavailable. I'm sorry you're having difficulties and I hope the Rover Match service will be able to help.

answered a question If you hired a house sitter for your dog, would you expect them to clean the mess from an accident?

Yes. I would expect them to clean a mess like that promptly. House Sitting involves taking care of pets and taking care of the home. Even if I was doing a Drop-In or Dog Walking visit I would clean it. When I used to house sit I always made a point of leaving a home a little cleaner than when I arrived. I was once told by a client she thought her maid came by. Unfortunately there are the "professional" experienced pet sitters and those just doing it as a job.

commented answer How do you deal with pup parents that are not very honest about their dog?

One more thing ;) I know it's hard when you're feeling over-whelmed or stressed but try to breathe and relax. Dogs pick up on our moods and feelings. When they feel tension in the air they're going to act out with tension.

commented answer How do you deal with pup parents that are not very honest about their dog?

I understand. At the meet & greet I start an information sheet on each client. Some fill it out at my home or I tell them they can bring it when they drop off. I ask names, ages, daily routine, meds, habits/toys/quirks? I wonder if people are more honest when writing vs face to face?

answered a question How do you deal with pup parents that are not very honest about their dog?

It might help if you look at the situation from a different perspective. Maybe the owners are honest and dog doesn't chew at home or have separation anxiety when left at their own home. Look at the situation from the dogs point of view. They have been deserted by their family and left at a strange house with strange people. I try to prevent these behaviors by keeping them busy. I walk each dog 30-45 minutes a day (15 min for older or toy breeds). I provide a lot of durable dog toys (Nylabone, Kong, Leaps & Bounds, Petstages). I have a basket for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. As for myself, pet sitting isn't "playing with dogs all day". It's takes work to keep a harmonious dog pack going and I find it normal to have mis-haps like dogs peeing inside on the first day. I keep my carpet shampooer handy and a supply of pee pads. Having an extra large crate, x-pens, baby gates and puppy-proofing your house like you would for a child helps tremendously. I hope this helps.

answered a question How do I handle a large dog that lays down during walks?

Since he is only 1 year old and a husky breed he may need a longer walk. I assume it's a 30 min slot. I don't offer dog walking so I'm not sure if it's meant to be 30 min walking or 30 min includes taking leashes on and off and refilling water. A husky would be better with closer to an hour walk if the owner would book it. You could also let them know how a well exercised dog exhibits less undesirable behaviors i.e. barking, chewing, jumping. I've had the same problem with a dog and when I get close to a trigger spot I say "you are walking so good today" and get the dog to start jogging until we're past that area.

answered a question Is it necessary to stay overnight for House Sitting?

I believe the requirement is overnight. Look under Help-Owners-Finding a Sitter-What Services Does Rover Offer. It's described as overnight care.

commented question can dogs develop allergies as they age?

It sounds like a grain allergy. My 20 year old cat has always been fed high quality cat food. Last year she developed dry scabs she shed everywhere. I thought it must be bacterial, fungi or virus. I switched to grain-free (not thinking it would work). Within a few days it cleared up!

answered a question Have you purchased any marketing materials from the Rover store? What was your favorite/most successful?

I'm glad you asked. I was approved for http://Rover.com a few days ago. I have been a full time pet sitter for years. I've always liked business cards. They're small enough to carry in my wallet, car or on dog walks but can advertise so much with a link to a website or Rover profile. I was talking with a woman last week. I told her I was a Pet Sitter. First thing she asked was if I had a business card. I always feel professional when I hand them out. You mentioned the postcard style business cards? I saw the Postcards (landscape) 6" x 4"? Now I'm thinking about them myself, they are very eye catching. I'm going to order the business cards first.

I was able to use the coupon code for 100 free cards and shipping!

commented question Does any type of record found by the background check disqualify you?

I'm sure you'll be fine. I believe every state has different rules regarding what can be used or considered in an employment background check. I would think your ticket is an infraction? Not even a misdemeanor?

commented question Has anyone used a FitBark?

I know, it does sound like a bark collar. It's similar to a FitBit (that people wear on their arm) to measure daily physical activity. The FitBark attaches to the collar & information is sent to your phone or computer. You enter dogs weight and food intake & it monitors if your dog exercised enough

answered a question Why don't I show up in the Mobile app?

I wonder if your search parameters are set differently on your computer? (maybe one only searches sitters and not boarding). There's also "auto-availability" that will remove you from showing up in searches when your available slots are filling up.

asked a question Has anyone used a FitBark?

I'd like to know if anyone has experience using a FitBark? I'd like to suggest it to a client who needs their dog to loose weight. It seems like a great tool for dog walkers.

answered a question My dog keeps peeing on my bed?

I agree. It can indicate an age or medical type issue. It could also be related to a change in the dogs environment or schedule. I've heard of it happening after moving, a change in work hours or a new friend at your house?

commented answer How does Rover.com compare with other sites?

Thank you. I feel much better. I like that Rover promotes networking with other sitters in your community!

marked best answer How does Rover.com compare with other sites?

I recently signed up and created a profile with another well known pet care site. I thought it was a reputable company. I'm very skeptical, it seems the majority of the posts looking for providers are scams/fake on this other site. I did interview with 1 person and was hired for regular dog care. I believe in offering compassionate and knowledgeable pet care and would like to be represented by an honest company. From what I've read Rover seems like a great company. I look forward to your advice.
