marked best answer Rover on your resume?

Since we are technically "free contractors" as sitters, is Rover.com something we can/would put on a Resume. Seems like a silly question, but I'm totally unsure! When I've applied for positions that are related to animal care, I mention just as a means for experience but would be just be better to add it to the resume?

marked best answer Price negotiation

Just curious. Has anyone ever been asked to lower their price, or give a 'deal' for whatever reason? Recently, had a owner attempt to haggle my stay price because her dogs "are sweet, well-behaved and on the same schedule". I, politely as possible, declined to do so. I told her that even the most well-behaved animal will act out/differently in a new environment, wether it be from separation anxiety, fear, whatever the situation may be. I believe I am fairly priced, $25/night & $15/additional dog, so I don't feel that I should have to lower it any further. Was that the appropriate thing to do? Suggestions?

marked best answer Is it common for owners to contact a sitter, have full conversation, and then never respond?

I have had this several times, someone would contact me regarding a stay and have a full conversation involving the stay. Including dates, drop off-p/u times, meet and greets, etc and mid way just drop the conversation. Assuming, they've just found a new sitter but by no means end the conversation with me. Mostly, I just find it rude, but also it holds those dates so you don't show for other potential owners until it's archived. What is the protocol for archiving a message, 1 day/couple hours?

I'm still very much new to rover and just recently getting a decent amount a request, so I don't want to wait on one persons requests when I could be helping other owners who will follow through.

asked a question Why do dogs hump (the air) after going potty?

I've noticed this with dogs that I've watched over the last few month, and now just recently my dog has started doing it. But after going potty, the dogs do the usual kicking and scrapping with their back paw and the occasional air humping. But with in just the last 2 weeks, my dog has become humping the air after pooping. She has never done this before so I have just found it a bit odd. Any one have experience with this? Or know why she would do this? I've tried looking online, but haven't really come up with anything.

answered a question What do you do when a dog ruins your things?

I've had something similar happen before, and unfortunately Rover will not cover any damages to your home or property. I had a dog stay with me that went out of it's way to get into my hamper, tear out clothes and then destroy them. She also ripped up two pairs of headphones, none of which were with in her reach as a little puggle. I reported it to Rover, just as a precaution and they basically told me; as sitters we allow these dogs into our homes taking full responsibility for what may or may not happen while they are in our care. Even though we do business through Rover.com we are technically self employed, so that's kind of why they don't cover anything.

Best thing to do is take note/photographs of whatever the damage was and let the owner know. More than likely she is aware of her own dogs behavior and will take responsibility for it. Which would hopefully be some means of reimbursement. If not, as rover customer said "chalk it up to a bad experience and learn from it for future stays". Good luck!

answered a question cat sitting?

You don't have to offer cat sitting. Just don't put a price there, and I believe there is something in the settings to click on/off so it doesn't show on your profile if owners search just for cat sitting.

answered a question Can a couple work together as dogsitting partners through rover?

I and my boyfriend do the dog sitting. The account itself is in my name but on the profile I do list him as sitter, include a photo and his experience as well. I also make sure to tell any new owners during the meet and greet that he is a sitter, along with me (he's usually present for the m&g) because there may be a time when I am not home for the pickup or delivery and I always like to make sure thats something they're comfortable with!

answered a question Why does my dog bark at fireworks?

A few times I've noticed, with my own dog and family/friends dogs, it's the combination of the sudden noises and the flashes of light. I've known dogs who are very much use to the sound of guns, trackers, other misc farm noise makers, and are startled by the fireworks. Same with thunder and lighting storms, they we're okay with just the thunder or lighting by themselves but when they were very closely back to back it startled them as well.
