answered a question What is your puppy rate?

The dad just picked up the dogs... and he said the puppy wasn't house trained when it said it on their form!! He said he's barely pad trained... so why didn't they bring pads? I had another owner bring pads so it's okay. I don't have them handy but will certainly buy some now. and as much as I do not expect a tip, I certainly deserved one with these two dogs, and nothing. what a way to start my morning. oh... and he pooped twice in my bedroom where there's carpet, not fun with diarrhea. arghhhh!!!!

asked a question What is your puppy rate?

I have watched several puppies since starting with Rover but I tell you, it is difficult! Very few are really house trained... I have one right now that has diarrhea and he's going all over my floors (the owner switched his food 2 days ago and didn't combine it for a good week or two like she should have)! I have yet to see where he's actually urinating other than the one I cleaned up. I had my rates $10 more than an adult dog but just now really raised them. I'm glad that I have mostly tile floors throughout my house but still... it's getting irritating, and just not worth the $30 a night (after the Rover fees). What do you charge or do you not watch puppies at all?
Thanks!

answered a question I just joined rover how do I get my first sitter request and keep getting requests ?

like Stella said, have one of the lowest rates first then after a few bookings you can increase them, and make sure you completed all the badges you can. And then wait... I think it took me a good week before I got my first request. Good luck!

commented question Will a 4-star review harm my rank?

no, I don't think it will hurt your ratings at all. If future pet boarders read your reviews, they won't care about one that's 4 stars, they'll realize how good you are. I actually got 4 stars with my first boarder and it bothered me but I've been busy since I just had to let it go.

answered a question on a dog boarding, how can i ask the owner to leave the dog cleaned?

I just had this problem with a puppy! he came to me smelling so bad of urine and everything with him stunk! I washed everything... the puppy (twice), the crate pad and crate. I told the owner when he got him what I did and I suggested he not use the pad in the crate.... all it does it soak up urine and makes the pup smell. Honestly, it was too much work and I really don't care if he didn't like what I said! He's young and really shouldn't have a puppy but I at least I didn't tell him that! I'd be honest with the woman, I always think honesty is best.

answered a question Why are our rates cheaper than the kennels and Petsmart rates?

I just looked in my area again and there is a wide range of fees, one as low as $15 a night up to $50 a night. I am at $25 which I thought was good for a beginner and thought I'd raise my rates slightly after 6 months or so. I do know that boarding at a facility is more expensive, especially when they have so many add-ons like bathing. My friends were out of town for 10 days and it was going to cost them $800 to board a small dog and a cat, so I went over there and stayed while they were gone... I had no idea it was THAT much tho.

commented answer Can I charge more for a puppy?

Thanks... I went on my profile and changed the fee, didn't realize I could! This puppy I've had all weekend is chewing on everything, but thankfully leaving today

asked a question Can I charge more for a puppy?

I'm new to Rover.com.. and so far I've already had two puppies! The puppy part doesn't bother me but the untrained puppy part does... both have pooped in the house, the younger one has done both in the house, and the younger one is a lot of work . Can I charge more or should I just put that I don't want to watch puppies?

answered a question How to leash train a puppy who refuses to move?

Shannon's right about the leash in the house... that's what I did when I got my Chiweenie as a puppy.. I'd never had a puppy before either, always got them a bit older. I asked my friends on facebook and the best advice was to have the leash on inside. another thing is the collar... I used a harness when he was young and it worked a lot better than a neck collar. I would put his kibble in my pocket and take him outside on leash and throw the food ahead a few feet and then have him walk with me to get it. all of these things worked for me, and I hope they work for you! good luck!! -S

answered a question How to stop constant barking?

I used a squirt water bottle on my Chiweenie when he was a puppy... really worked too. now when he barks, it's for a reason and will listen a lot better to 'No".

answered a question What's the healthiest treat we can give our dogs?

My dogs like frozen stuff so I keep the frozen bags of carrots and green beans in the freezer... if you want to make frozen treats, combine plain greek yogurt with plain canned pumpkin, add a little honey, mix and put into muffin tins, pop out and put them in a freezer bag, you can make them however large or small you want. My boys love them! -S

answered a question Have you ever gone on a road trip with your dog(s)?

I moved last summer from Atl to Las Vegas with my two dogs, one little and one big. We stopped every 2-3 hours to let them out and to let ourselves out! We found that Quality Inn accepts dogs so that's where we stayed along the way. We did a lot of sight-seeing like Memphis, Cadillac Ranch and the Grand Canyon, and they went with us everywhere. I think as long as you stay in dog-friendly places that you and the dogs will be fine. Take their own toys, food and water so they have some "home" with them too. Good luck!
