answered a question What is the ratio of problem dogs you have had?

9/42 are what I would consider problem dogs.

answered a question How do I leave a tip for my dog sitter?

cash or paypal but if rover sees you use the word paypal or cash in your messages they will flag your profile and contact you because you can't accept outside money that for the actual booking and services you provide. I've written to rover several times about adding a tip feature and they say it's a proper request but don't know when they will be able to offer it.

answered a question What is the latest a dog should be picked up on the day they are going home?

I operate on 24/7 schedule but for a boarding the dog should be picked up 24 hours after it was dropped off or will pay an additional 1/2 or full daycare fee.

answered a question Working out vacation time with a full time Rover business?

I actually recruited my neighbor to rover.com (and got the referral $50 amazon gift card as a bonus!). She is a stay at home mom interested in making extra money and of course a dog lover and someone I trust very much. Most of my daily walking clients live in our apartment building so it was convenient to train her and she was familiar with a lot of the dogs before. She created a rover profile and business cards and I passed them out to my clients when I let them know I'd be out of town and that they could contact her instead. It worked out great!

answered a question No longer want to provide day care services?

I only offer daycare as a trial run before boarding, or a last minute emergency for my regular walkers if I know they get along with my dog. My reason for no taking regulars anymore was because of the lack of money received for the time put in, how it interfers with my boarding clients since I get a lot of anti-social dogs and promise to only take 1 at a time, and because of my full walking schedule that keeps me out of the house for around 4 hours per day during the week.

answered a question Rates - nightly vs 24 hour?

This is one thing I am strict about and it cut down late pickups by so much! I'm upfront that overnight boarding covers a 24 hour period. 1-5 hours late is $20 half-daycare charge, 6-9 hours late is $24 daycare charge, and anything later than that is just an additional overnight charge. Haven't had any problems so far and people come to pick up their dog when they say they will. As far as operational hours I do this full-time so I don't mind the late nights or early mornings outside of traditional business hours but that rarely ever happens anymore.

answered a question For drop-in visits how much do you charge for more than one dog?

I charge the same for walks and drop-ins. I charge $15 for the first dog and $8 for the second dog. These are my final prices after raising them twice already in 8 months time.

commented answer What are the best mental toys?

I do the same thing for my corgi in our apartment. He loves doing his little easter egg hunts for food.

answered a question How do I get my dog to like his crate?

Create a routine using happy talk. We trained our corgi by saying "Guess what you gotta do?!" He goes running into his crate and we always give him a treat. It works out great when we leave, for bedtime or when he just needs a nap/timeout. We put a blanket over the crate to keep things quiet and dark so he can sleep peacefully.

answered a question What do you think is the most common dog name?

Brody, Cooper and Duke

answered a question Can I advertise in other places besides Craigslist and/or Facebook?

You can also advertise on nextdoor or carry business cards with you and pass them out at dog parks, in your neighborhood, at pet shops, vet clinics, shelters (ask permission first).

answered a question What are your additional dog rates?

I charge $36 for boarding, $24 for daycare and $12 for walks/drop-in visits.

I've only had 2 dogs from the same family for walks/drop-in visits but for all my services the 2nd dog is always half price.

commented answer Is there a new formula for search result standings?

How long do you think one is still considered a newbie? I started NYE and am number 1 in my zip code currently.

answered a question Extended stay discounts?

I don't offer extended stay discounts because any guest dog for that amount of time (6 weeks HOLY COW) is just too long for me personally and problems can develop overtime between the host dog and guest dog. I only take 1 dog at a time so an extended stay really limits my availability to all of my other returning/new customers. The longest stay I've booked is 9 days. One was with a super easy dog and another time it was with a big, challenging, puppy. I've had one of my most difficult customers ask for an extended stay discount and I simply told her, I'm sorry but I don't do that. On the contrary I don't charge extra for holidays so everything balances out.

answered a question How do you handle dog owners that are not prompt about their pick up/drop off time?

Always an issue. I've learned not to wait outside anymore. When they send me the text that they're here then I go downstairs to meet them. They can wait 3 minutes for me since I just waited over half an hour for them.

I don't understand why people will send me a text 5 minutes after they're already late saying they'll be there in an hour. It's crazy.

answered a question Has anyone experienced a dog breaking something in their home? and how did they handle that?

I always tell the owner. Sometimes they will offer compensation, other times they will not. I always deny the money but I just want the owner to be aware of the good and the bad while their dog stayed with me. Hasn't led to any bad reviews yet. I think you just have to speak tactfully.

answered a question Has anyone had issues with being scammed? I am skeptical and wondering what information anyone can pass on?

I did! I recently got a request from a lady who hasn't quite moved to the area yet but will soon. She wanted to communicate through personal email and asked me a lot of questions about my age, record, reliability, responsibility and experience. She wanted me to take her new puppy 3 days per week for 4 hours each for daycare but offered to pay $300 per week even though 3 half day daycare for a puppy would only be $78 per week. She even offered to pay in advance to secure me if she thought I was a good fit.

At first i responded back that I dont have reliable transportation because she wanted me to run errands also and I assume watch him at her house. Then she said "thats okay I can drop him off at your house." Seemed a little weird to me from the beginning.

Okay so I got another response and it just seems so weird. She hasn't told me anything about her dog even though I'd asked and I didn't think there would be a meet and greet because they wanted me to take care of some things for them before they arrive on May 20th. Her estate agent would send me a $300 check and their key to the apartment so I can deduct my amount and pick up food stuff and other things needed in the house before they arrive. She wanted my full name, full address, age, gender, phone number, acceptance of offer and closed the email with "All I need from you is total honesty and sincerity. I know you will be committed to the work, You will have a nice period of time working with me and my husband. "Character is much easier kept than rocovered""

TOTAL SCAM ALERT went off in my head and I reported it to Rover.com

answered a question Does anyone really brush their dog's teeth?

I don't but I give my dog dental chews, treats and toys often to clean his teeth. The vet always comments on how nice and clean his teeth are.

answered a question Do you change food amount based on activity?

I feed my dog the same amount everyday half a cup of kibble in the morning and half a cup in the evening. He is a corgi who will eat until he throws up if I ever let him he is LOVES food and will eat anything including other dog's poo outside on our walks. He's at a healthy weight for his size so I'd like to keep him that weight now. I supplement his hunger with treats and chews which is also how I've been teaching him to "leave it" outside and if he listens he gets a really great treat inside.

answered a question Help--My dog wont eat dry food anymore?

I'd add some water to the food or chicken broth. Whenever I have nervous dogs at my house and they won't eat the owner suggests I do that and then go back to eating their food again.

asked a question Will setting myself as away for one week hurt my rank?

I'm going away for vacation for 1 week. I put myself as unavailble for that week however I'm currently the number one sitter in my area and get requests almost daily. I don't really want to think about work while I'm on vacation especially when I won't have my calendar with me. Can I put myself as away until I return or will this hurt my rank and business?

commented answer What is your (real) cancellation policy?

Oh interesting. I thought it would raise suspicions with rover or something.

commented answer What is your (real) cancellation policy?

I've had some of my repeat walking clients cancel a day last minute if they're sick or working from home too. I usually just make a note of it and give them credit for the next time they need it.

commented answer Where do you have your meet and greets?

I agree with everything you said!

answered a question HOW MUCH OF MY HOUSE DO I NEED TO SHOW A CLIENT?

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. I take them around the back of the complex so they can see where I will walk dogs as well as our on-site dog park. Then I take them inside our apartment and have bedroom and bathroom doors closed because dogs don't hang out in there. They get to see the kitchen, hallway, den, living room and enclosed balcony.

answered a question Choosing Jobs (multiple booking requests)?

I honor whichever meet and greet I schedule first. If it goes well I don't meet with the second client and let them know.

answered a question Supplies for Doggie Daycare and Boarding?

Variety of durable toys! Chicken broth for picky eaters who won't eat their kibble. Extra dog beds/crate, Dog gate, and Sensitive baby wipes. Squirt bottle with water (to break up fights or discourage barking) Pill pockets if the dog needs to take medicine and the owner says its okay. Extra fixed length leashes/harnesses (I don't use retractable and that's what a lot of owners bring). Lots of poop bags and Lots of carpet and hard surface cleaners.

commented answer How does Rover.com compare with other sites?

Aww that's so sweet. Congratulations! I have so much respect for teachers.

commented answer Do you recommend other sitters if you deny a booking?

RoverMatch is free for the clients searching for a sitter. It does however take more fees out for the sitters who request to be recommended through RoverMatch.
