commented question | How do you stop an aggresive puller from pulling on their leash? This is the method I have been using along with getting his attention. I will continue to work hard and keep watching to make sure he is paying attention, maybe I will work on small walks inside too. Thank you very much. |
commented answer | How do you stop an aggresive puller from pulling on their leash? Thank you for your time, the harness I think will work better for Chibi since his head is so big. I will continue to work hard and stay patient with him. I have trained before, but, this has been quite a challenge since he is over a year and I believe no one took the time with him before. Thanks again. |

commented answer | How do you stop an aggresive puller from pulling on their leash? Thank you for your response, I have heard of the opposition reflex that dog's have and have been keeping that in mind. I have tried the turn the opposite method and have really worked with him. I will continue to work with this big baby and I reckon I will try this technique that involves "Lets go". Thank you so much for all your help. |
asked a question | How do you stop an aggresive puller from pulling on their leash? We've tried many thing from getting our dog's attention (look at me method) while were outside and he's on the leash to even buying a special chest harness to help, he just keep pulling. When we try treats outside to help train he thinks every time we go outside he should get a treat, even then we rarely use them. I am concerned he will pull one of us down, so any advice is appreciated. Thank you so much and God bless. |

asked a question | What do you do if the pet parents don't pick up their dog? Since I'm a new sitter I thought this would be a grand question. Long stays can be booked especially over the holiday season, but, what do you do if the pet parent does not come back for their dog or they are not responding to your calls? Thank you so much in advance for any response to me query. |

answered a question | Blood in dog urine Our senior dog had that same issue. We took him to the vet with a sample and found out he had a bad UTI, we also had lab work done to rule out kidney failure and other issues. I would definitely make sure you have some kind of lab work done if the problem doesn't clear up, especially if your dog was treated with antibiotics and the blood in the urine shows up again. When and if the symptoms come back after a round or two of antibiotics it can indicate kidney problems or even tumors sometimes in the bladder. Once you have the lab work done you can find the best treatment for you dog. I would be careful with cranberry juice, while it does help with less severe UTI's the sugar content is extremely high and this may cause other problems. Make sure you dog get's plenty of water, because that always helps. Your vet can advise you on the best course of action. I wish you the best and I hope some of this post helps you some. God bless |

answered a question | What are good ways to introduce a dog to children? All these answers are really grand. I also think it is important you let a child know they need to be gentle with animals. I have seen an excited child grab tails, whiskers, poke, pet too hard etc. just because they were not taught how to act before meeting the pet. Usually if a child is told how to behave and how to approach a dog they will do well, make sure you don't leave them alone with the dog though, because a frightened dog may react badly to an over excited child, or a child can get pretty rough with a dog unsupervised. I hope this can help you out some too, take care. |
answered a question | What are the rules or restrictions involved with bringing a dog into the US? I remember when I was going to bring me dog overseas to live with me the restrictions were limited to some things such as:
There are many more rules when you a bring a dog into or out of a country, but, I do know that all countries count a dog's behavior a one of the biggest. There are also certain breeds that can be restricted so makes sure you check on that as well. I hope me own experience helps you some and congratulations. Take care |
answered a question | Belly wraps/Bands We use a pee belt or belly band for our senior dog, we lovingly refer to the band as "wonder shorts" so as not to offend him. The belt has been a big help since our lad started having urinary incontinence, we also use some type of pad since there is no telling how many times he could go at night. I put the belt on him before bed time every night, since the velcro wears off after a time of washings I also secure it with safety pins to make sure it won't fall off while our lad moves around. The pad is always thrown away in the morning and the belt is checked for any sign of wetness. I recommend changing the pad frequently if you are using it all day and definitely use some safety pins if your belt fastens with velcro. I hope this saves you some trouble, take care. |
answered a question | Can dogs get stung by mosquitoes? Aye, mosquitoes are the transmitters of a lot of parasitic diseases, especially heartworm disease. I know one grand method besides of course a monthly heartworm treatment, is to spray your dog with some water mixed with peppermint oil. Peppermint oil is a natural bug repellent that can help you and you furry friends. Also, maybe do a small mosquito territory check. I would make sure there is nothing outside that can fill up with water, even something like an upside down trash can lid, or a tarp can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, anything that can contain water, not just the typical well know areas like creeks, lakes, marshes. Hope everything gets better and maybe some of me tips help. |
answered a question | Any experience with male dog "leaking" after urinating? Our senior dog has had trouble with this a lot lately. We took him to the vet and found out he had a pretty bad UTI after we took in a sample of his urine. He was prescribed an antibiotic that is basically the canine version of Bactrim, he was also prescribed Proin to help him with urinary incontinence. I would definitely take him to the vet to see what is the real cause, because if it's a UTI it can lead to bigger problems and urinary incontinence is nothing to mess with, it is a symptom that goes with a lot of medical problems for our friends. I hope all will be grand, take care. |
answered a question | Does anyone really brush their dog's teeth? I brushed me senior dog's teeth once a week for years and it could be a little tricky at times, but, it was worth all the time. Sadly, one day he stopped letting me when he started getting older, even growling at me for the first time, so I had to stop and now I give him raw bones to help get some of the plaque off, but, his teeth are not the same. I used a finger brush for years with poultry flavored toothpaste and I would touch his gums and teeth often to get him used to the idea of me fingers in his mouth and that is what help me for some time. I found out that raw bones can help a lot for dogs who just do not want you to brush their teeth. I hope this helps you some. |
asked a question | Is there an enzymatic cleaner out there, that is considered environmentally friendly? I have looked at a lot of places, but, most seem to fall short. I have tried Petsmart, Petco, even Menard's and Ollie's. Thanks |
commented answer | How do you stop a one year old rescued pit bull from peeing inside? I agree he has a weird history, we have all noticed he seems like he has been through some rough times. We used to use treats at first to encourage him to go outside and now we just praise him when he goes outside. I have tried the ignore trick, but, maybe I should try a little more and make sure everyone else here is doing that as well. Thanks so much. |
commented answer | How do you stop a one year old rescued pit bull from peeing inside? Thank you so much for your response. We have kept him on a strict schedule for potty and feeding. I have been looking for the enzymatic cleaner and have not found one that is considered natural yet, I will keep looking though. Thanks again |
commented answer | How do you stop a one year old rescued pit bull from peeing inside? Thank you, I know from experience with me other dog what a UTI can do to them. We have had this lad since May of this year and we had him neutered. He is usually just walking around and then, boom there he goes again even if he had been let out twenty minutes prior. We initially gave him treats every time he went potty outside and then when he got the idea we stopped giving him treats and we just really praise him. I am not sure about taking him out every hour because a vet told me that their bladder has to be trained and if you take them out too much it could cause more problems. I have never heard about the two potties for males rule, I reckon I will try that and see how it helps. Thank you so much for your response, I was... |

commented question | Is there a way to teach or train a dog to be calm around cats? I have two cats and two dogs and they get a long really well. I know from experience it helps if you bring a kitten into a home instead of a full grown cat. When I brought a kitten into me dog's life it seemed to help because he was more curious about her than anything and this gave them time to get to know each other and grow a bond. |
commented question | Why does my dog bark when my boyfriend gives me a hug or kiss? I have a fourteen year old German Shepherd mix and even though he loves me husband and son, he runs right over to me and and pushes against me leg if they try to tickle or grab me.I do not know what sex your pal is, but, a lot of times males are very protective of female parents while females are very protective of male parents, not saying that all dogs are like that, but that may be what is happening. Hope this helps. |
asked a question | How do you stop a one year old rescued pit bull from peeing inside? I have a one year old pit bull we rescued from a shelter. He is not the first dog I have had, but, he is me first shelter dog. He has been doing better with going outside, but, he still pees inside no matter how vigilant we are to his needs. I make sure he's outside enough and sometimes it seems like he is just marking, but, I am not sure. He is healthy with no UTI problems, goes to the door most times he has to pee, but, sometimes even ten minutes after he has been out he just pees right in front of me out of no where. How can I teach him to stop peeing inside? |
