What do you do if the pet parents don't pick up their dog?

Since I'm a new sitter I thought this would be a grand question. Long stays can be booked especially over the holiday season, but, what do you do if the pet parent does not come back for their dog or they are not responding to your calls? Thank you so much in advance for any response to me query.

Hi Katrina, The pet parents pay in advance for the "booked" stay. On occasion I have had a pet parent not respond to my updates/pictures and request on approximate time of pick up, on the day of pick up, so I can get everything together and not be out for a walk with the dogs. They usually respond on their way home, thanking for updates, photos and apologizing for the delay in responding. Usually it's because they have no cell service-dead zone, having a Lot of fun (Disney Land/Disney World), etc. Sometimes they call and request an extension for another day. If it is late in the day of pick up I have learned to do a new booking. Both the new booking and "extend this stay" are paid as a new booking and not added to the original booking so it would be what works for you if/when that happens. Just make sure you get the pet parent to watch their account and "approve" immediately. If they haven't "approved" within an hour, contact rover support to assist you. -Kathleen D.

Thank you so very much Kathleen for your very informative answer. I will definitely do as you suggest if/when this ever happens. I am a very thorough person and it sounds like you are too especially when taking care of these babies. Thank you so very much again and God bless.

Since this is a hypothetical, check this thread for information on what to do in that eventuality:

I've had clients who don't respond to my updates and photo messages. Usually I hear from them when they're on their way home. If you want to get some reassurance, after a couple of updates, you can express concern that they're not receiving your messages (a technical issue) and ask them specifically to let you know. Try a couple of different methods in addition to using the Rover messaging system: regular, direct email or texting.
