answered a question Did raising your rates hurt your bookings?

I recently raised mine, and it actually helped! Since my prices were a little below the standard, I think it left potential clients wondering what was it about the service that devalued it enough for the price to be lowered. Said in a different way, I think it made potential clients think that there was something worse about the service I would be providing compared to the quality of service everyone else would be providing. Am I making any sense? So essentially, I was coming off as a worse dog sitter than my competitors because there must be something wrong with me that made me need to lower my prices. Now that I am competitively priced, I think I come off as a competitive in the quality of service I provide.

asked a question What is the off-season for house/pet sitting?

I'm fairly new to Rover, and I'm getting a pretty full schedule already for this upcoming month. I was wondering what months I could expect to be busier and which ones are more likely to be slower? Thanks so much for your help!!

answered a question How can I stop my dog from eating cat poop?

they make this thing (like, I saw a couple varieties of it on http://chewy.com and also I have clients who have one) that is basically a strap that goes from the door frame to the free edge of the door. You can remove it (thanks to opposable thumbs and height) when you need to get into whatever room has the litter box, but otherwise, when the strap is set, only creatures the size of a cat can get in.

I figure that ought to work well for you as long as you don't have a chihuahua or some similarly-sized dog. If you do, the top-opening litterbox ought to work just fine.

I hope this helps!!

answered a question Why doesn't he like his food anymore?

My first thought is that you should have the pup checked out by the vet. We thought nothing of this behavior in our 7 year old dog, so we ignored it and changed her diet to more palatable things, and it turned out that she was sick. Now, I know that what she was sick with wouldn't have made a lick of a difference if we had caught it early vs late (it just so happened that she had terminal cancer, admittedly), but it feels a bit like I failed as an owner by not taking her to the vet in the first place when she lost her appetite. The vet has since told us that you should always take your dog in when they lose their appetite, and that it's far worth the risk that there's nothing wrong at all, and also considering that if the dog is sick, there's a far more likely chance that you can do something about it if you catch it early than you do if you catch it late. I hope that all made sense.

Look, I don't want you to think that I'm alleviating my guilt or something such by telling you to risk wasting money at the vet's. Like I said, it turned out with my dog, there was nothing they could do no matter when they caught her cancer. But that's not the reason I'm telling you to go see the doggy doc. The reason I'm suggesting you do so is because if there is actually something wrong with your dog, whether or not they can fix it, you'll feel really guilty as a dog owner knowing that you neglected her for so long if you never took her in until he/she got noticeably worse.

Lastly, let me try to restate that confusing mass of clauses at the end of the first paragraph. I was trying to say that the vet told us that you should always take your dog to the vet in the event that they stop eating, because the chances they are sick are high enough to warrant it, and also that the value of finding out you could treat or cure the illness they may have is worth running the risk that you'd be wasting your money by taking what you didn't know was actually a healthy dog in the end to the vet's office. Did that make any more sense?

Okay, I'm done now. I just think all of that is food for thought (no pun intended given the whole subject of this thread)

answered a question Crystallized old pee?

JK GUYS! I'm sorry, I forgot to search before writing. I found the answers. It can be caused by urine retention from me not waking up early enough to let her out. Thanks so much! I'll be sure not to let this happen again!!! (Thank goodness it was a hardwood floor)

asked a question Crystallized old pee?

Let me start out by saying that this could be from a cat, I don't know -- I'm watching two dogs and three cats right now. Everyone is healthy except one of the dogs, who is not only old, but has an infection going on through her whole body right now. The vets think that she's rejecting her artificial joint. Oh, and she's on antibiotics for it now.

Anyway, I came across some old urine. and it smelled so off that I'm not sure who it came from, the dogs or the cats. It also might have been from as long as a few days ago, but no more than that, and I think it was from this morning (I woke up a little late to take them out).

So, when I found it just now, it almost had this slightly crystallized nature to it. When I wiped It up with paper towels, it was incredibly dark.

Should I be worried? Or maybe its just a cat thing... Her current health problems are what's making me a little concerned.

Thanks!

asked a question Flyers and posters?

Does anyone have any recommended sites or applications for creating flyers and tear-off posters? I'm looking to make these happen and I'm drowning in options (lol)

asked a question Should I set a custom promo code?

I'm new to rover, but I'm starting to advertise using things like business cards and social media. Before I order and design things like flyers, those tear-off posters, business cards, and other things that cost money and can't be changed later, I was considering changing to a custom promo code.

My question is, do you think it actually makes a difference? Either I'd make it my last name, which is admittedly somewhat difficult to spell if you don't have it written in front of you, or I'd make it some random word or phrase. Any suggestions or opinions???
