asked a question What to do in this situation?

This is the first time I am in this situation and after hearing siimilar stories from talking with other sitters I still wasnt convinced I would be in the same situation. A recent client is trying to say her dog got bitten while she was with me. Only my dog and another dog who I keep regularly was here. None of the dogs played with each other and kept to themselves which is normal. Most of my host dogs are spoiled rotten and really laid back like my dog is. I had two meet and greets with this client. Prior to the second meet and greet she had used other sitters and said they did not work out either. However, both times the meet and greets went smoothly. I also make it known that I have tons of random bones around for dogs to chew on. She failed to mention her dog does not chew on hard bones or treats. So of course her dog went to town on the antler bone she found and didn't want to part with it. I took her to a local park and when we came home she ran straight to the bone again. She ended up cutting the side of her mouth and bleed a little which has happened before with my old dog when she started having teeth problems. The next day she was leaving and I showed her owner where she was in pain and bleeding a little. She checked her out and left. Later that night she wrote me and said she was acting abnormal and taking her to the vet. So 3 days after she left my home she went to the vet for a checkup and was cleared. Vet said she was fine. Then I get another message a few days later and she says she was bleeding a little from her neck area and her hair was coming out and made it seem like I lied about the situation. So now her second checkup was today and the vet now says it looks like a dog bite but nothing serious. I've had dogs all my life. Is it just me or does something seem off? Has anyone on here had a similar situation happen?

answered a question Rover & DogVacay Joining Forces ?

I hope it does not change too much because I have had several clients leave DogVacay and start booking me on Rover because they felt it was easier to use, especially on mobile.

commented answer Anyone else notice insanely low rates from other Rover sitters?

Angela yes her view on care is horrible. But I dont tell people how to run their business. And that was the point I was making. Price does not in any way dictate level of care. I used the sitter I know as an example because there are many like her. I was just as surprisef when she told me that.

commented answer Anyone else notice insanely low rates from other Rover sitters?

Robyn I have been providing care before I joined Rover. So when I mention bookings I am talking about on every site I am a member of including clients that have booked directly as cash clients. Also, I did not mention you at all. I was agreeing with someone else. And the sitter is not a friend.

answered a question my dog just went into heat, and I have a client booked with an intact male. Advice?

I do this all the time. I have two girls and they are not spayed. I keep boys whether spayed or not. My dogs wear diapers when in heat and panties. You can get disposable or cloth. You can also buy baby diapers and cut a hole. The panties are closed with either velcro, buttons or zipper. Your choice.

answered a question Anyone else notice insanely low rates from other Rover sitters?

I charge low rates as well. $20 a night normally and $25 a night for Holidays. I only have two dogs that I keep at $20 flat regardless because they have been regulars since I started providing care. I agree with what Angela said. Many of the sitters charging low are not doing this for main income. I work part time, mostly from home, and own 3 businesses. My husband works full time and we co own 1 business. We have enough primary and residual income to where dog sitting is just pocket change. I do this because I love dogs and we cannot accommodate more than two since we travel often. To be honest, my husband said no to more dogs. Dog care is a way I can spend time with lots of furbabies and not have people spend kennel prices which is ridiculous. One thing I can say is that I do more for dogs than most of the sitters I have come in contact with that charge more. If I'm keeping your dog they will get treated like mine. That means your dog can go to work with me, run errands with me, go out to eat with me, and do everything and anything mine do. I know a sitter that charges $40 a night. Shes a great person but many will assume that since she charges $40 a night their dog gets the best treatment. Your pup never sees daylight unless they go to pee or poop. They are usually in a crate most of the day. This sitter does not work and is home all day. She seemed to find this humorous and say people are stupid for paying so much. I'm not here to break peoples pockets, especially during the holidays. Also, just because we charge low does not mean we will not make much money. I actually made triple what she made because at the end of the day most people look for the lowest priced sitter. I have had dozens of people say they don't really care to do a meet and greet and they just chose me because of my price. Ive had people drive 45 minutes when they had a dozen sitters near them because I was the lowest. Ive also heard stories where sitters were paying double and they said the previous sitters house actually smelled like they had a dog and could tell they were feeding the dog in the crate because there were kibbles wrapped up in her sheets. To put this simple. If you are losing clients because of your prices then the sitter most likely can care less about the quality and just is looking to save money. Or, they found someone that provides better quality at a cheaper cost.

commented question Barkbox Discount?

Have you tried Pettreater. Its around the same price but so much better than barkbox. Barkbox seems to have really cheap quality. However, I love your idea. I wonder if in the future pet boxes will just start targeting sitters. Verify us and then we can get a discount.

answered a question Why doesn't Rover let Sitters share info about dogs?

Maybe we could start a facebook page or something for rover sitters, by city. That way we can beware of certain dogs. I also had this issue. Owner said dog is fine in the bathroom with her bed. I even put her rawhide in their with her. Nope. She tore up my entire door. I ended up running into a sitter at the park. She had 7 random dogs so I figured she was one. Found out the dog has issues with 4 other sitters in the past and was very popular in the sitter community. I do think its crucial that we know to beware of a certain dog. Especially when its constant. I used to think that was what the reviews were for when Rover would ask me to review a dog. I dont even take the time anymore because if they were useful Rover would ban that person who has over 20 bad reviews of their dog.

answered a question Hosting multiple dogs during holiday season?

I only host multiple dogs during holidays. Up to 4 max. I have two dogs of my own as well. When I first started I did one at a time. The worst thing is to have multiple dogs and some do not get along. I have only had that issue once but the aggressive dog was a dog I have on a regular basis. She became over protective of my home as if it were her own. When another dog came in she would try and bite because my attention was now being shared with another dog. I have talked with another sitter that had an owner file a complaint against her for negligence. She went to put a load of laundry in and one dog bit another. It was a small bite but then the dog bit her when she tried to pick him up and crate him. Situations like this is very rare but you must be comfortable and prepared. Make sure that when you do a meet and greet with other dogs that you introduce that dog as well.

answered a question "Potty trained" dog keeps going to the bathroom on my carpet. What do I do?

It is all about training and whether or not the owner is lying. Of course they are not going to want to admit their dog sometimes pisses other places. I have kept dogs who have never been to anyone elses home and used pee pee pads. They saw where I put it down and they went on it. There were some dogs that acted like they had no clue what a pee pee pad was. I went to a seminar once and they passed around a short survey for dog owners. All the sitters were emailed the results a week after and a little over 90% of sitters said they would not tell sitters if their dog has had accidents in other sitters home or even in their own home.

I always expect a dog to have at least one or two accidents, especially the first day. However, if the dogs is constantly peeing on the floor after day 3 that is a huge issue. All dogs can be trained. I let the owners know upfront that if by the 3rd day their dog is peeing and pooping they have the option of their dog staying in a crate the remainder of the stay or paying extra for doggie diapers.

answered a question A way to leave feedback on clients so other sitters can see?

When I first started writing the reviews I thought they were for other sitters to view so they can see what other sitters experiences were. Luckily I have never had a bad experience but I have heard of some awful ones. For example, Ive heard of a woman who said her dog was dog friendly and well trained. Two different sitters watched this dog and both had horrible experiences. The dog chewed on their furniture and had also attacked their Pomeranian. The dog was vicious. I think she ended up having to call animal control because the dog started attacking the other dogs she was watching. The dog seemed fine during the meet and greet they said.

answered a question Why isn't the last day of sitting considered?

I understand how irritating this can be. I have had clients contact me in the middle of a stay saying they wont be able to pick their dog up the scheduled time. For example one dog was expected to be picked up at 12pm and the owner said they would not be able to make it that day until 6 or 7pm. They did not want to pay me for that extra day. They tried to book with me again and I told them I will not care for their dog again. I think Rover should implement some kind of system where the client has to check out. It would make this easier.
