commented answer Do you charge for a meet and greet? Or getting to know you visits?

That's what I have been doing. Thank you for your response.

commented answer Extended day rates?

I did read how rover works. On the rate page there is an option to change your fee : Extended Stay Rate Applies to longer stays. This is your custom rate for per dog per night. I didn't know if anyone used this. The title should read extended stay rates. My mistake.

asked a question Extended day rates?

Do you do this? Charge more?

I am doing a 2 week stay and charged my regular fee every night.

asked a question Do you charge for a meet and greet? Or getting to know you visits?

I don't charge for a meet and greet do you all? What about getting to know you visits?

I figure this is an interview for them and me. They are seeing if I'm a good fit and I'm seeing if it's a job I can do so I don't charge.

I am gong to stay with 2 senior dogs who are with their owners 24/7 I want the transition to me staying there and the stress of not having their owners there as smooth as possible. I want to visit the dogs a few times before they leave so they are comfortable with me. I'm also going to leave something at their house each time with my smell on it.

I understand this is a business but my instincts as former dog owner are kicking in and want to do the right thing.

I should add it's about 20 min from me.

answered a question What do I do with this dog peeing puddles in my home all day long?

It's a puppy. Unfortunately you are dealing with potty training. Don't expect him to hold it as long as a dog. Some puppies take up to a year to train. Take the pup out every 20 minutes, when they potty reward with GOOD BOY/Girl and give reward. If they are peeing every 10 minutes then they might have a urinary track infection and need a vet visit. Keep them confined to an area that is easy to clean, like a kitchen. News paper, pee pads. Potty training is a bummer, good luck

A belly band on a puppy is not a good idea. .

answered a question How do you prepare for a dog boarding where the dog will be timid without their owner (separation anxiety) and have loose stool?

You can add canned pumpkin, NOT PUMPKIN PIE MIX, to their meals. Make sure you buy 100% canned pumpkin, they are right next to each other on the shelf. It helps regulate the GI track and most dogs love it. A tablespoon with each meal. Also, more frequent walks, a pillow or bed from home that smells like their owner, sound machine or radio. Try to keep the dogs routine the same, meals, walks, it will help.

commented question How does house sitting work? Are you actually making any money?

Most dogs need to be let out at least every 6-8 hours. You are agreeing to live in their house and care for their dogs not just go and let them out. If you don't think you are being paid a fair wage up your fees.

answered a question What to do about aggressive dog?

Did the client give you an emergency contact? Family or friend? I"m new to this but Call Rover and call the friend.

asked a question Do you have a contract of care with your clients?

Curious if you have a contract of care with clients you are going to sitting. Permission to take them to the vet in case of an emergency? How do you handle vet bills? I understand they should have a credit card number on file at the vet but if the dog was to bloat in the middle of the night or another emergency how do you handle it?
Client will be out of the country so contacting them won't be an option. I like to have all my bases covered.

If you do have contracts could you please give me an idea of where to get one? Thank you :)

commented answer Do you ask clients to make sure your bedroom is clean?

Thank you for your advice. They want to book me but the stay isn't for 2 more months. I went for a meet and greet to talk to them and meet the dogs. I said I want to meet with them again to go over the details and also talk to the dog's vet, the dog is 14 1/2.

asked a question Do you ask clients to make sure your bedroom is clean?

When doing a meet and greet do you ask to see the room you will be staying in? Do you ask to make sure it will be clean or do you do it yourself?

I have sat for friends that have immaculately clean homes but not everyone is like that. How do you handle a sitting job with a messy house?
