asked a question | Can I "tag team" with a local sitter for emergencies? This weekend I had an emergency happen (ended up having to take my husband to the hospital), causing me to have to cancel/reschedule a couple visits. I was not able to send anyone in my place to help out, but I communicated with the clients as much as I could. I also was on the phone with the Rover emergency hotline the whole day regarding the situation. Is there a way I could partner up with other sitters in my area so that if we have emergencies we can contact each other to help each other out in similar situations? The only way I know to communicate with other sitters is to request a booking, but I'm afraid if I do that I'll mess up their booking score. |

commented answer | Have you been able to do this full time? Thanks, Robert. One of my concerns is that I don't think I'll be able to get enough clients in that tight of a radius. The neighborhood where I live is kind of spread out, and not particularly affluent. I've got my radius at 12 miles, and hope that I can continue to add clients until I'm full time. |
asked a question | Should I charge for check-ins during business hours on top of house sitting? Hi! I have gotten some requests that involve multiple visits throughout the day, a few of which are during business hours. I have an hourly day job, and so I lose time and money at that job if I need to perform a check-in. I've cleared this with my boss, so scheduling is not an issue at all. I'm happy to do check-ins during the day. However, what if a client requests it house sitting, instead of "x" number of check-ins per day? My thought is that I would charge for the house sitting as normal, and then only charge for the check-ins that take me away from my day job. I would not charge for check-ins in the early mornings or evenings, because that is part of the house sitting service. If I don't do it that way, I'd be losing money. I want to be fair to the client, but I also want to be fair to myself. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks |

asked a question | Have you been able to do this full time? Hi! I was wondering if any of you experienced sitters out there have been able to do this successfully "full time". I'm really loving this, and am going through all the tips for self-promotion, and have been getting more business, which is great. Maybe I'm not calculating this correctly (Math is not my strong-suit), but if I were to be making a living wage at this, I'd have to be doing 8 to 10 check-ins/walks a day. That's a lot of gas and travel time to factor in as well. I'm not counting on house-sitting since those are more sporadic. (Also as a side note, I can't offer boarding because I have an anxious cat and a skittish rabbit in my house). If any of you have success stories with being able to do this enough to where you can pay your bills, I'd love to hear your tips and advice. Thank you so much for your time! :) |

asked a question | Multiple Promo Codes? Hello, I am still fairly new at being a sitter through Rover. I couldn't find any answers on here, so I'm sorry if I've missed some info. I noticed this Friday is the Chinese New Year, and this year will be the year of the dog! I was thinking it would be fun to create a separate promo code (different than the one I currently have) for this occasion to promote on social media sites. Is this even possible? Thanks, Megan |
