answered a question How to stop my dog from pooping on the carpet?

Your best bet is to see if you have time to take the pup to a puppy training class once a week, like on Saturday mornings. They will be able to give you helpful hints. Only being home for five hours could make the dog mad, and they are showing it by pooping where they are not suppose to.

answered a question Which dog breeds are best suited for apartment living?

I worked in a pet store and we would not sell bigger dogs to people who lived in apartments. Simply because bigger dogs need more room, need more space to run around, roll around on the carpet, not be in between your legs constantly if you are walking. Dachshunds are good because they can run on the smaller size. Poodles are okay because you can get a teapot poodle which also can run smaller but be about 30-40 pounds. Terriers are VERY energetic dogs. This might not be good if you don't have a lot of space for the pup to run around. Bulldogs are great because they are lazy dogs, so they won't be hyper and need a lot of space. Beagles are good but they are hunting dogs so you may need to walk them more.

answered a question I have yorkie terrier that licks and scratches until his hair comes out in patches, does anyone know what I can do?

Our shiba inu is having the same problem. He is licking between his legs and it has become very raw. We found this powder than you put on to where they are licking and it will keep them from licking because it has a bad taste. You do have to reapply throughout the day. Once you notice him or her stop licking you most likely won't have to use the powder anymore.

answered a question What is the best way to rid your dog of fleas?

We like organic for our animals. We love to keep our animals safe. We went to the pet store and got a dry shampoo to put on our dog to let his skin relax. We use advance ticks and within a few days the pets were fine. You can't just treat one animal though!

answered a question excessive licking?

My Pomeranian is notorious for licking, EXCESSIVELY. What we do is say give kisses, so you are allowing the dog to give you kisses, but then say no more kisses and kinda of not push them off but settle them down. It gives the time to kiss, but then knows when it is time to stop.

answered a question How do you get a dog to stop barking in the car?

My best bet would to bring a toy if she has one, or a raw hyde. It will keep the pup busy and distract them from looking out the car window.

answered a question How do you handle a dog constantly barking?

My german shepherds bark can be heard from two houses down. Its POWERFUL. It all depends what the dog is barking at. If he is looking out the window and barking, you may need to put some kind of blinds, or curtains to make it harder to look outside. The best thing is to use squirt bottle and say bad dog. Then when he doesn't bark if the door bell rings you reward him with a treat!

answered a question How do you stop a dog from digging?

Our pup loves to dig in flower beds. Ones that we take much pride in making beautiful of course. Honestly the best trick that has worked with us is catching him in the act using a squirt bottle, and saying bad dog! You need to let them know its not okay, but without hurting them.

answered a question Fencing recommendations?

I don't think it is more about the type of fence but more the slots between. I've had a german shepherd my whole life, but both sides of my house their families had dogs too. So all of us went in on a deal and got the neighbors done with ours, and got a deal. This made it so the dogs couldn't get threw the fence but just had their nose threw a bit. We recently introduced a little 9 pound dog in our house, and we found out he was able to get out threw the slot. Wooden fences are you best bet. It easier to fill the holes if the pup digs. But do let the dog see into the other yards, they like to socialize!

answered a question Dog Birthday Celebration

I love my pup! I know exactly when he was born. That day, I will go to little pet shops, not the mainstream ones, or even bakeries. They have special dog treats. They are frosted, have all kinds of treat, enough I would want to eat it! Dairy Queen even has doggie specials. Raw hied bones are great too, they take long to chew which will give them a few days to celebrate a little longer. Take them on a walk or on a hike. Dog parks, car rides!

answered a question How to stop dogs from peeing in one area of the house?

Our pup has his favorite places to pee in the house. We started noticing that it had been where our cat was laying during the day. So they may be trying to cover up one another scent. Try to put a potty pad down where they are doing the bathroom. They might not want to use the bathroom their if something is already there.

answered a question Why does my dog bark when my boyfriend gives me a hug or kiss?

My boyfriends dog does this all the time. If we are hugging or kissing, or even watching movies, he has to be right between us, or on top of us. He gets VERY jealous. So we have started grabbing him after we kiss and smuggling him with kisses too, from both of us! So the dog knows that both of you love him or her!

answered a question How may i get my dog to get along with other dogs in my home?

I think your best bet is to try a dog park first, or somewhere like walking path where dogs are going to be. See how he or she reacts then try bringing dogs, the same size as him or her. This will make them not feel intimidated and not trying to overpower the other dog.

answered a question What is the best product to clean urine smell?

While watching a family's dog, they told me the one dog sometimes had accidents in his cage. She left me a bottle of bleach spray, but it was safe for animals. Look for something that has more of a organic spray than the hard duty one.

answered a question Does your dog bark at bigger dogs?

AHHH! This is one of my biggest problems! My little 9 pound Pomeranian has a big dog personality. He will take on my German Shepherd if given the chance. We have not gotten him fixed yet so that may be the problem? I think because they are little, they need to "yell" to let the bigger dog know that their not intimidated by a bigger dog.

answered a question How do you teach a dog not to jump on people?

When I watched my last family's dog, their dogs jumped all the time. They were scratching up my legs really badly. What I learned was to bend down to their level and allow them to get excited and give kisses. Then if they are still jumping, grab under their armpits and push/pull them down. You might need to do training treats to help them get use to learning to sit when kisses are over!

answered a question How do you stop a compulsive licker?

Our Pomeranian is notorious for licking. What we have done is teaching to give kisses. So that gives him the few moments to give you a lot of kisses, but then when you say down, you push them into your lap and continue to pet them to keep them happy and they know they were not doing anything wrong.

commented question Why does my dog lick the couch?

We have found from our dog, that he licks because of our scent! Our other dog owns the couch. So he has licked it while cleaning himself, and has basically matted our couch so he continues to lick it to keep it matted.
