answered a question The client wants me to call her cell number instead...not the one she has listed with Rover. Is this going to hurt me in any way in the long run?

I gave my personal number to a client and immediately regretted it. He was extremely difficult and before it was over he was sending me very nasty text and I had no way to get them to Rover. I won't do it again.

answered a question Flakey Client part 2?

I do not allow customers to come to my home for the first visit for safety reasons. I prefer not to meet at their home the first time either. I always pick a park or pet store convenient to both of us so I can see if I feel comfortable. I will do a second visit at their home or mine. I'm a very petite female and simply don't feel safe otherwise. Also, I don't want everyone knowing where I live, who lives there, etc. I've had clients try to insist but I always let them know the second visit can be anywhere they choose.

commented answer How to know if you can trust a client?

I love the advice about asking them to complete their profile. I'm going to start doing that.

asked a question Is there a way to review the client and not just the pet?

I've found few dogs I can't handle, it's usually the parents that are the problem and I would like to know if I'm walking into a situation where someone is difficult. I had an especially bad experience this week and wish I'd had a head's up on this guy because I would have either turned him down or been much more prepared for his total angry melt-down in my living room.

answered a question why doesn't rover require a client to fill out their profile completely before requesting my services?

This has been very frustrating for me as well. I agree that it is unfair that clients find out everything about me but I can't even see what type of dog they have. More than half of my clients don't have pics or even basic information filled out. I'm much less likely to interact with someone who provides little to no info. I know it's a pain to fill all that out but I also wish Rover would require at least BASIC info on pets.

commented answer How can I get my dog to stop eating poop?

I've worked with thousands of dogs who do or don't eat poop. Seems to follow breeds like dacshund, pugs, frenchies, etc. To a dog, poop tastes like cookies do to us. Your vet can give you a supplement that will help.

commented question Recommendations for dog collars?

Does he actually need a collar on while swimming? If so, you could find a water repellent collar or buy several and run through the washer right after swimming. If they really stink, spray with vinegar and wash when it's convenient.

commented answer Clients giving a short notice for services?

I contact my best clients when I see I'm getting booked and offer them a spot and remind them that it's better to book and cancel than need an appointment and have none available. I ask for a deposit (refundable up to 72 hours before their appointment). That cuts down on cancels & last min booking

commented question Why does my dog pee so much?

First make sure the dog doesn't have a urinary tract or kidney issue by calling your vet If your dog is peeing over and over in the same potty break they may be "marking" and not actually urinating. Marking involves hormonal scent and sometimes only a few drops of pee, or even nothing visible.

commented question Do you give discount for client who needs multiple drop-in visits per day for a week or more of vacation?

I do but I make it a package they purchase up front. That way I have payment FIRST and they get their discount as they continue to book. People will drop out but at least you got paid for the work you did. I give 10% on a 30-visit package.
