answered a question When should I spay my puppy?

Traditionally, vets recommend spaying around 6-9 months, but in recent years the recommendation has changed. They are now advising you to spay as early as 8 weeks. Spaying before their first heat cycle drastically reduces the chance of uterine and mammary tumors later in life. Tumors, once they develop are cancerous 50% of the time in dogs and 90% of the time in cats. Mammary cancer is the 3rd most common cancer in cats and the 4th most common cancer in dogs.

Spaying early is you and your pet's best bet for a long healthy life together.

answered a question what cost pet sitter?

The only cost up front is the background check, which I believe was $10-15. Once you get your profile set up and begin booking customers, Rover will keep 20% as their fee.

answered a question Can I walk two dogs for the price of one or at least give a discount for the second dog? If so, I do I do that?

When you go in to your sitter profile, go to where you enter/ set your rates. There is a blue hyperlink under each section for "addition services". Click on the one under Dog Walking and you can set a standard rate for additional dogs. This will only apply if the 2 dogs are part of the same booking.

You can also just manually adjust the price on the individual booking each time if you want to discount on a case by case basis.

answered a question What do the little symbols next to a sitter's name mean?

Here's a link to a more detailed description (https://support.rover.com/hc/en-us/articles/202838404-How-do-I-earn-profile-badges-and-what-do-they-mean- (https://support.rover.com/hc/en-us/ar...) ), but basically the check mark is that the sitter has completed their background check, the "go" icon means that they have also signed up for the "Rover Go" program, and the graduation hat means that they have completed "Rover 101" online.

asked a question Why are the donations made by sitters through the "Sit a Dog, Save a Life" Program not tax deductible?

"In accordance with our terms and conditions, http://Rover.com will transfer 100% of your allocated proceeds to your chosen charity(s), and will not reveal your identity. The charity recipient(s) will not issue a receipt to you for this allocation of funds, and it is not tax-deductible"

I'm confused why the donations made by sitters through the "Sit a Dog, Save a Life" Program is not tax deductible. Since the donation amount is coming out of what the sitter is being paid, why can't it be deducted as a normal donation? If the sitter waited for full payment and then made their own payment to the charity, it would count as a tax deduction so I'm confused.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around the program and decide, as a sitter, if it is a good option for me. I think the program is great and would love to add the extra badge to my profile, but I'm also looking at the business side.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or guidance :-)

answered a question Why does my dog eat cat poop?

Dogs are omnivores, so their diet ideal diet should be a balanced mix of meat and plants (grain, fruit, veg). Cats are opportunistic carnivores, so their diet should consist primarily of animal protein with occasional plants (grain, fruit, veg). This means that even in a digested form, cat poop still contains a good amount of protein. Cats also require a higher quality of food, and may not fully process all of the nutrients. Dogs are drawn to the remaining protein and see it as "food".

While its a pretty common behavior, dogs should definitely be discouraged from eating cat poop. Aside from the fact that its just gross, there can also be parasites and/or diseases passed from one animal to the other.
