answered a question As a pet owner, is it acceptable to expect to see the inside of the sitter's house?

If I have dogs currently boarding with us, I’ll rarely bring in a potential border during the meet and greet. It’s not fair to anyone if our guests and potentials upset each other. As we almost always have guests, it makes meet and greets less about our home and all about who we are as sitters.

answered a question What legal recourse do the neighbors of Rover.com dog boarders have when the ongoing boarding of 5 to 6 dogs at a time is causing a severe nuisance?

It is not Rover’s responsibility to govern the noise of a Rover sitter as we are all 1099 contractors. We are all independent business owners so Rover has nothing to do with it. You should take it up with your neighbors, your HOA or the local police.

commented question How do I deal with owners who take advantage?

This is our business to manage. It's up to us to not be taken advantage of. We set the rules and how those rules are enforced. You need to stand up for yourself.

commented answer How do I handle a walker not staying the full time?

I'd also let the walker know you have a monitoring system.

commented answer why are we not allowed inside sitter's house?

This is EXACTLY what I tell my parents. It makes anxiety worse for those little ones with separation issues. I have watched a bunch of dogs and have never had a separation anxiety issue because of it.

commented answer How do I provide proof of income with no 1099?

Businesses legally have until January 31st to mail out 1099s for 2017. Has Rover stated outright they won't be providing 1099's?

answered a question The dog threw up in the friends car after pick up. Should I have paid for the car detail and car wash?

Dogs throw up for a million different reasons. The dog was not in your care at the time of the incident so it's hard to prove that it was from something you did. I would say though, that leaving something as important to feedings to someone else, isn't a good idea. You assume responsibility for a dog when you book them and feeding is of the utmost importance. I'd buy them a bottle of Resolve for cars and leave it at that.

answered a question have any of you agreed to watch dogs you have sit before and then they end up being HORRIBLE?

I'm having an issue like this currently. Not nearly as devastating as your situation sounds but the dog is destructive, pees everywhere, isn't socialized and not an ounce of training. I've been very direct with the owners on how important training this dog is going to be. He's already 8 months old and more than they can even handle. I will let them know that unless he has gone to training with a professional, I will not be able to watch him again. I think that is fair and reasonable.

answered a question unavailable for a particular client?

This is business, not personal. You should ever feel bad for telling someone their dog isn't a good fit for you. Just be honest, polite and direct. Don't mince words because that can lead to confusion. The best approach is always upfront. It will probably happen to all of us.

answered a question Why are there sitters that appear available on their calendar but then aren't when you try to make an inquiry?

I wonder if there is something in your profile that is preventing Sitters from accepting? I'm answering from the app and so it's hard for me to see your profile but perhaps there is a trigger in your profile that is making Sitters shy away from working with your dog?

Sitters ultimately decide on who they want to work with. They don't have to accept bookings but to improve or maintain their search rankings, they can't ignore or refuse many bookings. If there is something in your profile that is scaring Sitters off, I'd be careful to review it and see if Rover Match can help you secure a good fit. I'm the first person to say I won't take certain breeds because I know they aren't accepted where I live or are generally not a good fit for my family's lifestyle. We take dogs that suit our lives so they have a happy and healthy environment to thrive in.

answered a question Is this a Scam or real?

Our gut usually tells us what to do in a situation. I personally would have someone from Rover talk with this client. $20 a day is way too low for 24 hour care. Also who will pay for ongoing care, grooming, food and supplies? What if the dog gets sick? I would steer clear of this whole scenario and ask Rover support to look into it.

answered a question I have a client with 4month old golden retriever that are going away for a couple of days and are just requesting drops ins...is that safe to leave a puppy alone for only drop in?

What about the pup during the night? The best rule of thumb is an Hour for every month old they are. Little one won't make it through the night. I would suggest to them they board the baby.

answered a question What can I give my dog for constipation?

Lots of water, gentle walks, gentle massage on his tummy to help aid in movement. Fibrous fruits and veggies safe for dogs.

He may have eaten something he shouldn't have, so there could be an obstruction. Better safe than sorry, so if the water and walks don't help, call your vet to get medical advice.

answered a question Why does my dog lick my feet so much?

Feet are salty and covered in bacteria that probably taste pretty great to dogs. Little weirdos :)

answered a question Do you agree with Rover Cards?

My biggest question on this is sitters are considered independent, 1099 class service providers. By making something mandatory, they're wading into w2 employment practices. You can't make a 1099 contractor do anything except comply with local and federal laws/regulations and to do the service they're hired to do. Anyone else looked into this?
