commented question Charging per night or per dog?

I charge my base rate plus $20 per each additional dog. I have plenty of clients with multiple dogs. Some new clients will try to get a reduced rate but I remind them that I have already reduced the rate. People appreciate a loving responsible sitter, they are will to pay for a safe and happy pup.

commented question how do you politely tell a owner their dog is competely un-trained, leash, door, house broken etc, when they insist the dog is perfect in all aspects?

I had a clients two dogs who not only refused to go outside but did it in front of me and spattered on my feet! They got into a fight with one another and one bit a family member who had walked and interacted with him having no issues. I told her at pick up that it wasn't a good fit.

commented question i dog i sitter on rover destroyed property?

My husband accidentally closed the bedroom door with a dog inside and went to the store. The carpet was damaged at but I consider it my fault. It's a sitters responsibility to watch the dogs in their care and utilize prevenitive measures to insure dogs are crated or put into play pens if necessary.

commented question Is anyone using the call in leads from Rover? The one where you pay 50% of each clients first visit to Rover and then keep 85% for each following stay? What are your thoughts on this service?

I can't see it as a real benefit for me personally.

commented question Why was my Craigslist account put on hold?

I recently had the same thing happen to me. They are not at all helpful in explaining why this has taken place. No one will take your call and all you receive is a generic email. I suggest you use another email address and open another Craigslist account because they will not unlock it.

commented question Boarders: Occupancy Rate?

I'm usually open for bookings unless I take myself off the calendar. You could have sits almost every week if you promote yourself. I've built up some regulars so I'm pretty busy lately. There are times of the year that are very busy around holiday season, summer and spring. Then there are slow times during February. If you promote your services to retired people who travel they fill in the slow times when everyone else is on a schedule based on school holidays.

asked a question Will rover ever have a way to price doggie daycare?

I have clients who ask about doggie daycare. I wish there was a way to price it in my services offered. Will that ever be an options for sitters?

commented answer Sitter to sitter. My pricing is per night per dog. So does anyone discount the 2nd or more dogs?

I agree that having multiples from one home is easier because the relationship is already established. You don't have to worry about conflicts.

commented question Sitter to sitter. My pricing is per night per dog. So does anyone discount the 2nd or more dogs?

I offer a discount for the family if they have multiple dogs. I just think it's good business practice for me personally. I get regular repeat clients this way. I know the dogs and know what to expect during their stay. It really is your personal preference if you choose to discount the second dog.

answered a question What dog breed is the best off leash?

The only dogs that should be off leash are none. They should always be on leash unless in a fenced in area. Dogs can become distracted by cars, people, other animals etc... Why risk the safety of the dog or other people?

asked a question What to do if dogs I sit for are allergic to flea treatments?

My dog got fleas from their last visit. I like the dogs but not the fleas. They are allergic to flea treatments. Help!

answered a question Do you think Rover will ever update bookings to include pick up and drop off times?

I've had the same issues. I've raised my rates and I made my own form to give out at meet and greets. I also gave it to my existing clients to sign and return. It's sets the parameters for my rates being based on a 24 hour per day rate from drop off to pick up. I set rates for the extra hours and I have had no problems except one client who resisted a little but after explaining to her that I book based on my personal schedule and the schedule of other clients who have bookings with me. I just go on to http://Rover.com and add the extra time to their stay and they pay with no issues. I try to be flexible and work with them. I explained to them that it was due to issues I've had with other clients who failed to pick up at the agreed upon time and I was having all my clients sign and return the agreement. I also ask them to verify drop off time in writing through Rover before the stay. I send them a message when they drop off thanking them for using me as their sitter and verify drop off has taken place. It would be great if this was a option already built into the site but until it is I suggest all sitters cover it with their clients. I love what I do and am really attached to my four legged clients but it is also my job and no one wants to work for free. If the clients see you are committed to providing the best service and care possible they value you. They will value the relationship you have with them and will treat you with respect. My clients love their dogs as family. I treat their family members with the same loving care I'd expect of someone caring for my little Yorkie. Be a good judge of character when you have your meet and greet. Don't forget you are interviewing them as they are interviewing you for the job. Sometimes it's just not a good fit for you. I hope this helps;-)

asked a question Was there a glitch in the message system on 5/29/15

I received multiple duplicate messages from a potential client yesterday. I was wondering if there was a glitch or should I be wary of the person sending me messages. I was going to set up a meet and greet but was a little scared to give my address.
