asked a question Bad experience with Rover support?

hhhhhhhhhhh

commented answer Security/safety of the sitters with new "report" cards?

My reasons for doing Rover sitting are that I like keeping busy, meeting new dogs, and helping families know that their dogs are in good hands. The level of monitoring and the fact that it is glitchy is not helping me or the client. This family texted me at 2am thinking I hadn't checked on their dog

commented answer Security/safety of the sitters with new "report" cards?

Hi all, I've been looking for comments on this. I've been doing this for a year and a half and I have about 40 5 star reviews. My Rover card did not send for a new client who was already nervous and now I'm fairly convinced they don't trust me. It's a horrible feeling.

commented question approximately how far is the average distance for a 30-min walk?

Hi there, I have a client that I only walk for every other weekend and our half hour walks are about 1 to 1.2 miles as well. This particular dog walks at a pretty slow pace and sometimes lays down on our walks haha, but I think 1 mile is pretty typical.

commented answer What do you do when a clients dog damages something?

Thank you for your help! I tried searching for damage and I couldn't find anything, maybe my phone was acting up. I did end up mentioning it to the owner and she was really great about it. I definitely don't blame the dog, I was just being overly optimist that this wouldn't come up!

My biggest concern is that my boyfriend won't want to try again! I just love being a sitter and hope we can find some dogs who are good fits for us. My dog is having the time of her life this weekend!

Thanks so much! I did mention it to the owner, and kept it light hearted. A comforter is not the end of the world, plus it was in the spare bedroom so it was already one we didn't care about. The owner did offer to pay for it, which was nice. Yes, only taking crate trained dogs is a great idea!

asked a question What do you do when a clients dog damages something?

I am doing my very first rover stay at my own home. I've been a rover sitter for a year and have always gone to other people's homes. My boyfriend and I just bought a home and he agreed to try hosting a dog. She's been great and really gets along with our dog. The owner said she can be left alone for 5 hours tops. We left for 3 hours and she ate our comforter. Is there any protection for sitters when it comes to damage? Do you tell the client when their dog ruins something? Do you expect payment for the ruined items? It's just so unfortunate because I was really excited to host dogs and I'm afraid my partner will just not allow it after this occurance.

asked a question Why am I getting requests outside of my service area?

I have received several requests that are outside of my service area. I am wondering if declining these stays will affect my search ranking. I am also wondering why I show up in their search results when they are looking for sitters. I feel bad turning people down and I wish I wouldn't get these requests that are further than I am willing to drive. Has anyone else had this experience? Is this something Rover support can make more strict?

commented answer Security cameras in the clients home--would you be comfortable?

Thank you for your help! It was just the first experience I have had with this, and it made me feel a little nervous. I did book the stay, and hopefully it will go just as well as it did for you! Then I can lay my anxiety to rest :)

commented answer Security cameras in the clients home--would you be comfortable?

Thank you for your help. It is great to hear both sides of the story and to know that you have heard of this before. It is anxiety inducing for me as well, but I accepted the stay and hopefully it won't make a difference in the end.

Thank you for your feedback, Carmen. You are right, there are cameras everywhere...I just hadn't thought about it that way.

asked a question Security cameras in the clients home--would you be comfortable?

I just had a meet and greet with a new client. It went fairly well, I told them I would be happy to watch their dogs, and at the very end of our half hour meet and greet they told me they have cameras in their home. I immediately felt my face turn pink, and my only response was "where?" They pointed in a few directions, but I could only see one out in the open. The dogs seemed great, the people were nice, and they do have a very nice home. I would never do anything irresponsible in a clients home and would never disrespect their home, dogs or property, but something about knowing cameras were going to be on me and the fact that I didn't know where they were made me uneasy. I already told the family I would sit for them, but haven't accepted the stay yet. What would you do in this situation?
