commented question Why do you charge holiday rates on non-holiday days?

Because we have to sit at home so I charge more because I can and I'm worth it.

commented question Do you agree with Rover Cards?

Rover works for us. We are independent contractors who pay for them to keep web up and I'm done with them. They joined with way and now u have people lowering their prove so I made 15,000 last year before wag. Now i haven't been booked so if I'm not headed for my goal I'll try another company.

commented answer How do you charge for drop in visits longer than the average 30 minutes?

Why have people other sitters ruin it for us by lowering our price. They spent money buying the dog and food and shots but the sitting she s not worth what she wants?? Girl kick butt n don't haggle. Use ur skills as a great sitter . Trust me u will get people.

You have to set boundaries now. I would that client is being disrespectful to us sitter. 4v hours is daycare rate. I would not start anything with someone who does not believe you are worth it and so is the dog. Sometimes they will make one profile for four dogs, again u know she s like this.

answered a question If a customer asks that you NOT walk their dogs while with you (because of the fear of them getting away), even though you know that they really need that energy release of exercise, do you do as they ask and not walk them?

I agree with the previous answers. You just need to give yourself a break because I know you want to walk the dog, because 99% of all dogs love to see the leash, and hear " wanna go for a walk" . As a dog sitter you like that confirmation that you are doing something the dog enjoys. Just take this as a case by case situation, if the owner told you that the dog was scared of the dark you would leave the lights on no question , cause you are a good sitter and you know that this is just one of those things that you dont have control over. You do have control over giving the owner of this dog the best stay EVER, make them feel that they are right and that its okay that they asked for this, In my exp I have seen that dog owners just LOVE being heard. So if you do follow all the little suggestions they have it will go far and you will have a pleased customer. So give yourself a pat on the back for wanting to do the right thing for the dogs health, But this is one of those things that sometimes we LEARN from. We dont know what that owner has been thru in the past and the pain maybe of losing a dog due to having someone walk it. Good luck!

commented question Writing reviews on client's dogs

No the review is for you to go back and see the notes about a particular dog. So NO the owner or anyone for that matter sees your review. Now when they write you a review and you answer that is posted to the site so make you answer those short and sweet so other potential clients see that you appreciate those reviews.

commented question I'm scared to tell a dog owner, I no longer wish to sit their dog incase she reviews me badly. How do I tell her politely no?

The nice thing about having your own business is you can make these kind of decisions without asking anyone. IF you dont want to sit that dog, which i have a dog that i wont sit again cause he bites, I just explain that Its not a good fit for me and thats it. You dont know if that dog has done this to many sitters and she likes you cause you just keep accepting her dog. Thats it put your foot down and say your not available. Thats the nice thing its not like its posts" this sitter is lying and wont watch your crazy dog" So just close the door on things that don't work for you and move on.

commented question can i meet some sitters in advance?

You should meet all of the sitters you plan on having your dog stay with. The Way rover does this is they really encourage a sitter to do whats called a "meet and Greet" that way you see the sitter and the home so you can gauge stuff like is the water clean, do they have a barrier like a second pet door before the regular front door so that your dog cant just run out and thats it. So yes dont let anyone tell you that you have to book or pay to meet them. Thats a bad business practice and http://rover.com does not agree with that behavior. So you have to be diligent in setting the rules for your stay.

commented question Low Ranking

Get some tools from the rover store, Business cards with your Coupon code that your create really helps. People love $20 off, and if you dont get the booking but they use your code you get $10. SO you either get a sit and the $20 does not come out of your pocket or you get the $10 cause they used your code. You can generate your URL and code on the Dashboard page.

commented question I am still haveing problems finding the page to go to for payment, please will you direct me?

IF the dog sitter hasnt confirmed the booking it wont allow you to pay so that no confusing things happen. So usually when a sitter gets the request they confirm that on their end and then you have the pay option button pop up.

answered a question What are some (ideal) Meet & Greet questions?

This is a great question.... I always ask if the dog is a runner, does he take any chance to run away to find the owner, is the dog the kind that tries to get out of his leash so a harness would be most wise. Ill ask questions about how the dogs like to be picked up or petted you will be surprised that dog owners LOVE to talk about their Babies. So ask anything, anything is not a stupid question and you will be able to know what questions to ask as you have more stays. Like for me in the beginning didnt take the dogs out to potty before bringing them into my home for the first time since the owner dropped them, they always pooped right when they walked in, so my new thing was that when the dog is dropped off we go for a 5- 15 minute potty walk so they are set when we go inside, and its not always fool proof so you have to keep an open mind and have the carpet cleaner ready.

commented answer How do I know I can trust these sitters and how do I know they will take care of my furbabies?

Laura is so right, I am also grateful to the few people that took a chance with me and it worked out well. so yes sometimes going with someone new is great, you get that vip status because you believed in that sitter. But go investigate. see the home, ask all the questions, the meet and greet questionaire is a great tool to use.

answered a question How do I know I can trust these sitters and how do I know they will take care of my furbabies?

You have to go with your gut, the reviews and of course a Meet and Greet. I have so many dog parents that come to me and say that their precious dog was attacked at a sitters home. I cant believe that people let that happen but believe me it happens more than you think. Make sure you are checking out where your dog will stay, do they have clean water for the dogs, if the place smells like a dog potty then I dont know how much pride they will take in your dog. I have watched lots of dogs and the one thing people always say is "wow your home does not smell like an apartment that has 4 dogs staying here" that is wonderful, of course I have dogs that come in with stomach ache or just nerves and I make sure they are cleaned up and then the carpet. Its not an issue, the accidents will happen, Also do they have a second door so that your dog just does not run out the front door. Will they use a harness so your dog cant get out of his collar and run away to look for you. These are some of the small measures I have taken to ensure that I give the best possible care and no missing dogs. Again just going with your instinct and meeting the person and seeing where your dog will be. I send tons of pictures during the stay cause pictures do not lie. So be aware of sitters that dont take pictures and dont have a CPR Pet first aid cert. Because they might be in this for the money and not have any respect that this is your most TREASURED COMPANION.

commented question Can anyone recommend a great place for pet tech First Aid and/or Canine First Aid/CPR certification?

Just google, Pet CPR first aid, most places that offer it for humans will have a pet option. It looks really good and make sure to scan your certificate once you get it so potential dog clients can see you are certified.

commented question Looking for the first aid certification video ?

You have to take a CPR Pet first aid class on your own. The first aid 101 is a test and yes it looks good but its not a certification that makes a difference.

commented question I'm having trouble getting my first pet sitting job?

Yes I had the same problem so i ordered some marketing tools from the rover store, I have business cards, cards, car magnets and they actually have your URL on it and a code you make up so its specific to you and the client gets $20 off the first stay and if they use your code for another sitter you get $10. This is a great way to start, I passed them out to anyone that would breath. Keep it up and it will pay off. GOOD LUCK

commented question I have yorkie terrier that licks and scratches until his hair comes out in patches, does anyone know what I can do?

Tsitika is right make an appt asap for this problem. Its mites maybe and they will find out what it is. they will not let your dog suffer. Take her in asap.

commented question How do I book a client who called me by phone

Also now that I have been doing this for a while, I have tons of people that "want" me to watch their dog, and will try anything for you to do it for free so now i say if they are serious it will be in my inbox. Its a business and you have to set boundaries just like life, this too needs boundaries.

asked a question how to book multiple day sits at the same time?

I have a lady that wants a bunch of day sits. And she put the booking in like a straight thru 24hr for a few days, so how does one book the day and the next day without having to do several separate bookings.

answered a question How do I book a client who called me by phone

Hello Barbara, First off it is awesome that you got a client to contact you, but its always the best to book them directly thru the http://rover.com site. You wont believe the benefits are better and the piece of mind you have knowing that http://Rover.com has your back if anything should go wrong. Just politely ask them to book online, even offer to walk them thru it on the phone, trust me a little extra attention to the client goes a long way. You are trying to set yourself apart from other sitters so take pride in yourself and things will go really good. Also the set up online is awesome, any text is sent specifically to that http://rover.com pet owner, they receive their own "number" and all the communication is documented so if you ever have to refer to it , the conversations are right their. Good luck!

commented answer 3 Star Review

This is so true , and just like my friend she never gives a five star to anything, some people don't feel anyone is capable of five. I on the other hand put 5 cause I know anything else is not right, but that 5 star has to be earned. Just like tipping , tipping is way out of hand, tipping was a way the thank someone that went above and beyond the normal job requirements hence the extra cash.
