answered a question Why does my dog get hiccups?

Hiccups usually occur from eating or drinking too fast. Puppies especially tend to gulp a lot of air when eating/drinking. Hiccups are caused because the diaphragm gets irritated. Nervousness or excitement can cause them as well.

answered a question anyone know someone great who can handle a difficult 15 lb shih tzu on Long Island?

Where on Long Island? I am living in Brooklyn now but go back home to Patchogue and West Hampton about once a month. I don't have vast experience with shihtzu but I usually do ok with difficult dogs. For instance I'm watching a chihuahua mix at the moment who apparently only was nice to his owner, but now he doesn't leave my side haha. What I do is take my time with them (even if it takes hours/days) and spend time with them down at their level. This tends to just make them more at ease and feel less like they have something to prove. Hope this helps :)

answered a question If a client wants you to watch multiple dogs and/or cats are they charged PER pet?

You have options to fix your rates accordingly. For example, you can charge 40$ a night for regular sits, and then choose to charge the same 40$ if the owner has two or more dogs. I personally charge a little less for an additional dog, I find it gets me more business and is the right thing to do. You can set all of these prices however you want through http://rover.com or your rover app. Go to your rates section and click Edit up at the top, then set your prices accordingly. Good luck!

answered a question Why does my dog eat another dog's poop?

My dog doesn't usually eat other dogs poop, but for some reason loves our cats poop. One reason this may be is because your dog is lacking in certain nutrients such as Vitamin B. They eat feces to replenish enzymes. Also, it's gross to think about, but maybe they also just like the taste and smell (gross). I'd rather it be because of enzymes haha

answered a question What are your favorite and least breed(s) or variety of dog and why?

Growing up I always had larger dogs - German Shepards, American Mastiffs. I adore large dogs that still think they are lap dogs. I would love a golden retriever especially when I have kids because of their loyalty and patience. Now a days, I must admit- I love small dogs. Even the yippy ones! I have a chihuahua whom I adore although she doesn't let anyone come near me haha. I can't really say if I have a least favorite breed. I'm more of an equal opportunist :) as long as they are friendly to me, they are ok in my book

answered a question Why does my dog lick my wounds?

Although it is out of affection- your pup is trying to heal your wound and comfort you, dog saliva isn't always the best thing for human injuries. Don't allow them to do it too much because it may lead to infection.

answered a question Why does my dog scratch the floor?

Believe it or not there could be a few reasons. One main one may be excess energy. Dogs tend to adopt some strange behaviors when they have too much energy and no way of getting rid of it. Try taking them for a long walk, when they come home maybe they can relax. Another is anxiety and fear. Maybe your pup digs during storms or when you have company over? Or maybe when you leave him alone- that could be seperation anxiety. Again, maybe a long walk will help ease their mind or a nice treat to take their mind off of it.

answered a question dog problem how do i cut her nails?

I had the same problem! I agree with both answers. I also bought a mussel that I only use for this purpose because my pup Harlie tries to bite anyone and anything when we try to clip her nails. I tend to put some treats or peanut butter on the snout of it and let her eat that to distract her while I try to get the job done. It at least let's her know that the mussel isn't a bad thing and it comes with treats :) it makes her more willing to put it on. Sometimes she still tries to bite. I agree that if all else fails, bring her somewhere or get a friend or two to help

answered a question Best home made dog treats?

My pup likes literally anything! Homemade dog treats are super easy. I'm sure you can find some other recipes online but the easy one I use is 2 cups whole wheat flour, a tsp or so of salt, one egg, half cup or so of hot water and then a bunch of goodies for taste (chicken broth, shredded cheese, bacon. If your dog is sensitive to the whole wheat flour you can use oats) bake at 350 for about a half hour :) sometimes they look a little funky but apparently they taste great

answered a question Are real christmas trees safe for dogs?

Similar to the other answers, a Christmas tree shouldn't cause too many problems except the possible want to pee on them (I know from personal experience haha). But you should still be careful, pine needles and stems can cause cornea lacerations. Also if a pup ingests too much of the tree sap it can possibly cause gastrointestinal issues. I would keep an eye out as much as possible and make sure they aren't too curious about it. Also sweep up any loose needles just to be safe :)
