asked a question Is there a way to rate owners?

I just had a meet and greet where the dog owner texted me accidentally - ABOUT me. It was not nice things (and not about how I'd treat her dog or anything like that). I responded calmly back and said "Sounds like I'm not the right sitter for you" and archived her request without booking. But is there a way to warn others that a dog owner is flat-out rude and awful?

This experience leaves a terrible taste in my mouth.

answered a question How do I get my dog to drink water on a long hike?

There's that old idiom that says, "you can lead a horse to water (but you can't make him drink)." Literally! I am a Frenchie owner as well, and my dog will only drink water a couple times/day - and when he does, he chugs an entire bowl. I've been concerned when it's hot and we're on a long walk if he's not drinking, but really, if your dog is thirsty, he will drink.

Now, if your dog is snobby and only likes water from a certain bowl or cold water, that's something I might explore. Maybe your dog dislikes the bowl you're using. Sometimes if it's super hot out, I'll pack a baggie of ice cubes and put it in an insulated bag so worst-case, I can give him an ice cube, which he loves.

answered a question Why won't my dog lift his leg?

There's nothing wrong with your dog. My 1 1/2 year old (neutered) male pees like a girl ;). However, he recently has started to lift his leg very randomly. I attribute this to my boyfriend's male dog's influence.

commented question What should I do if owner never returns.

I'd definitely reach out to Rover directly. How irresponsible of the owner! Ugh!

answered a question Meet and greet safety

There is a park right by house (along with a coffee shop and a bank parking lot) where I usually meet people. Then, if I decide they are trustworthy and I'm going to book with them, I will have them walk with me over to my apartment so I can show them how to get in and all that. It's easier than making folks take two trips out to my 'hood.

Therefore, I recommend meeting in a semi-public place by your house. I know that this may not be an option for non-city-dwellers but it works well for me.

answered a question Boston Terrier vs French Bulldog

My boyfriend recently (6 months ago) rescued an 8-year-old Boston terrier, and I have a 1.5 year old Frenchie.

Both are great breeds. Both are very entertaining and fun and very unique in their own ways, and I largely agree with the comments above. Anecdotally, most Bostons I've met are more hyper and high-energy than Frenchies. They LOVE balls and tend to have more energy. My Frenchie is great with kids; the Boston is nervous around them. My Frenchie has yet (knock on wood) to have any health issues, while the Boston has quite a few (tumors, allergies).

My French Bulldog is MUCH more cuddly than the Boston - the Frenchie is lazier, but boy does he have his moments in tearing around the house in all-out sprints and actually loves longer walks more than the Boston. My Frenchie loves to rough-play with other dogs while the Boston takes longer to warm up and won't share toys. But really.... every dog is different. Your dog's personality will be individualized for whatever breed or dog you meet. You could meet a really low-energy Boston or a crazy stubborn Frenchie.

I personally love both breeds. Go to a rescue or a breeder (if you go to a breeder, MEET THE PARENTS. Seriously, this is a stronger indicator of their personalities more than anything else) and find whatever personality suits yours. Good luck in finding your furbaby!

commented answer Do french bulldogs do well in houses with lot's of stairs?

Also, as long as you have a responsible breeder you shouldn't have many or any health issues with your Frenchie. I LOVE the breed - they're super funny, loving, weird, gremlin-like dogs who are just the best. You won't regret it! :)

answered a question Are daily hiccup fits normal for a puppy?

This happened a lot to my puppy when we first got him. The hiccups decreased around 4 months for me. I agree with the person above who says that if they don't go away on their own or if she is experiencing distress, it's time to see a vet. Hiccups are very normal for puppies.

I have a 1.5 year old Frenchie, and I too have 4 flights of stairs to get to my condo. He has no issues! If your Frenchie is healthy, it should be fine. If you have any dog that has known spine, hip, or pelvic issues, then I'd say re-think it or you'll be doing a lot of carrying. :)
