Are pet sitters have background checks?

Are pet sitters bonded or do you have background checks on them?

Sitters for Rover are not require to pass a background check or carry any protections outside of Rover's support unless it is required by law in the sitter's city, county or state. For instance, boarders in many areas may require a kennel license to operate. Many sitters choose to have the Rover-provided background check performed, and there are also a significant portion of sitters who have had a background check performed outside of Rover or are bonded/insured. Sitters who carry additional protections will likely mention it in the body of their profile.

Hello Cheryl,

That is an excellent question! If my answer does not suffice please contact Rover Support directly by phone [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team] or email support@rover.com. Some sitters and walkers have chosen to purchase the Rover package to be bonded and insured but all stays with Rover.com are insured regardless. In addition background checks are required to have your profile accepted as a Rover.com sitter or walker. Also to verify the different qualifications a certain sitter has visit their profile page, scroll down and on the left hand side it will display their years of experience, if they passed a background check and more. Good luck and enjoy the convenience of Rover.

Thanks, Douglas Q

The Rover Protection Package does not make a sitter bonded or insured. It provides additional customer and veterinary support, a Help-4-Pets subscription, and a profile badge. The bonding/insurance referenced here is also different from the pet insurance provided for Rover stays; those are business protections which covers clients who file a claim against the business and protects the business from financial losses in the event of an accident or negligence.

Thank you for the clarification Laura. Have a great weekend!

No prob - it's pretty complex if you're new (or not that new!) to running your own business.
