Is there an inclement weather policy and procedure for dog walkers?

It appears as though I am snowed in and the my local weather channel is advising that people stay off the roads.. but, I have a dog that I'm walking every day at noon. I have every intention on making a valiant effort to get there but, what happens if I can't?

As a dog walker and one that does drop-in visits, my personal rule of thumb is that if local schools and businesses are closed due to weather, I will cancel the booking...I'm upfront about my "personal inclement weather policy" at the Meet & Greet so the pet parents would expect a call from me regarding cancelling due to weather. I live in WI...and our winters are notoriously cold and snowy, so it has to be really bad for schools and businesses to close (mainly blizzard conditions or temps well below zero - or both!). I did recently do a drop-in visit during a regular all day snow storm and had to drive in bad conditions, and could barely get into the clients home due to a huge snow drift blocking the door, but I made it!

It is my opinion that you should contact the dog owner and explain the situation, and let them know that if you need to cancel you will make sure their money is refunded. If they live in the same area as you they probably understand (and may not have gone into work today themselves!).

Good luck!

In addition to Carmen's fine answer... if the owner is away (out of town), and it's too far to walk to, I'd contact Rover Support in addition to the owner to see if there is a closer sitter who is within walking distance that may be able to walk the dog (if they could gain access to the dog of course).
