how much do sitters charge for overnight stays?

One of your sitters was watching too many dogs and asked me to watch one over the holidays. The owners are due back on Jan 17th. At first he told me he would pay me $35 a day but now that we're coming to an end he says $35 is more that he gets and he can only afford to pay $15/day. Is he being truthful?

The amount each sitter charges varies, as each sitter sets their own prices. You can view his rate by finding his profile online searching the city and zooming the map into his area for updated results. It seems most sitters are paid 85% of the advertised rate (with Rover retaining 15%) unless the sitter is a premiere sitter who are paid 75% (with Rover retaining 25% for their services). I understand there may be some other programs too (I think RoverMatch is 50%-50%) and the sitter may have created a custom quote -- if are discounts or additions were made to the published prices. Before each stay, the sitter creates or approves a quote, which the pet-parent approves, so the amount is known before the stay begins. If I had to guess... since he told you he'd pay $35/night, I'd guess that might be the total amount charged to the guest and the odds are most likely he'll be paid 85% of that = $29.75/night a few days after the stay ends.

I'm, fairly sure the fact that the sitter has asked you (and it sounds like you're not a Rover sitter living in a different home) to watch dogs would likely be concerning to Rover for customer support, liability, and insurance coverage reasons. I believe according to the Terms of Service, if the sitter was overbooked with Rover dogs, the proper thing would be to involve Rover Support and any other applicable persons, to get them officially re-assigned to another sitter in the network. This could jeopardize this sitter's Rover account.

By the way, I'm not a Rover employee. Although Rover representatives visit and comment here sometimes, it's mostly sitters & pet-parents.
