What is the best way to rid your dog of fleas?

asked 2015-10-28 17:28:12 -0500

I really don't like chemicals for getting rid of fleas. I am looking for something more natural.

It sounds weird, but Dawn dish soap, Original, kills fleas on the spot, instantly. It might dry out your pets skin though, so make sure to bathe them in the Dawn first and then with something more soothing, like an oatmeal bath or shea butter based. Comfortis, an oral flea pill, also works very very well, if your pets have seen the vet within the past year. Another thing you could try is to get some Diatomaceous Earth, food grade, and spread that into your carpets, leave it overnight, and then vacuum it up. But it HAS to be food grade, not pool grade.

Dawn dish soap mixed with salt to make a paste, double wammy, the salt dehydrates the fleas and they hate dawn. Sprinkle damaceous earth on carpets and let sit or you can also use salt. Then vaccum (repeat). Make sure you empty vaccum cleaner immediately. Wash floors, bedding and pets. I used monthly advantage for dogs. If you have cats, make sure cats are kept away until dry on dog as it can be hazardous to feline friends. Cats have their own version of advantage.

We like organic for our animals. We love to keep our animals safe. We went to the pet store and got a dry shampoo to put on our dog to let his skin relax. We use advance ticks and within a few days the pets were fine. You can't just treat one animal though!

I have tried them all. What works for me- first and foremost, feed a raw diet. DE food grade on all carpets and floors over night, then vacuum up. vacuum DAILY( I cannot stress that enough), put Geraniol (or with Neem) collar on the dog as flea repellent, shampoo as needed (it does not matter which shampoo, it is the suffocation that kills the fleas).

The original Blue Dawn dish soap will kill live fleas on the spot. Wet your dog's coat, apply and lather soap, leave on for 2 minutes. Keep in mind that there still may be flea eggs present after this treatment, but all of the live fleas will die. I follow up this treatment with an application of fipronil to kill the eggs.
