Will I be penalized for flagging posts as offensive?

Lately spam posts have been posted to the message boards. I flagged them the first time they showed up, but this last time I started to, then thought maybe I shouldn't. When I flagged them, I was informed that we are limited to flagging 5 posts a day. If I keep flagging posts, will it reflect badly on me and harm my standings?

Good question, but I don't know the answer. I sent it via web form to Rover Support. I saw another sitter also identified the problem in her answer to a a question.

Edit to previous answer - I think every time you down-vote an answer you lose 2 points. My opinion: that's enough to make sure no one does it out of spite or competition, but not enough to make a huge difference.

Deb is talking about me in her comment, I think.

Because I'm not sure how closely these boards are monitored, any time spam pops up I send a note to Rover. Lately Rover product support has been contributing to our discussion board because they are looking for input on new features, and it seemed like a good opportunity to make sure someone was aware of this proliferation of spam.

I encourage everyone to communicate with Rover any time there is suspicion of illicit activity on this board. Rover is made up of people like us, and they benefit when the company grows. I like to think they value our input.

(At the same time, it is likely that any time an email arrives at Rover from my address, someone in Corporate rolls their eyes and says, "Who wants to take this one from Carmen again!?")

Yep, Sorry I couldn't remember Carmen. Ditto that last comment as I've sent a lot of support forms.

Ha! No worries!

When the first ones showed up, I also flagged one but since it stayed on the board for several hours, I sent an email to one of the Rover people, who was out of the office. Other than Rover employees who participate on these boards, I don't think anyone has enough treats to delete the spam or function as a board moderator.

All the spam should be cleared! Feel free to flag spam when you see it. It takes more than one flag to make spam disappear on it's own. Changing threshhold id under review.

What about the comment or answer provided by https://www.rover.com/community/users/33334/? His spam message was in response to a valid question about donation badges and his comments still show up in my inbox.

I used to have the ability to close and reopen questions, which was useful for double posts and spam, but now that's no longer an ability afforded users.. is there talk of putting back more of the community moderator functions?
