I have sat both with and without a background check. It helped my search rankings when I paid the extra money for a background check, but I wouldn't say it was worth it until I had made enough money to cover the cost. I had previously been background checked for various other parts of my life, and was able to produce that documentation if I needed to. Essentially, you're just paying Rover to improve your search rankings.

While on the topic of background checks I would just like to point out that if you have ANYTHING on your record (even so much as a petty misdemeanor that is 15 years old) you'll be removed from the site.

What about a driving ticket from a few years ago?

is this accurate?

Yes it is accurate....They removed me over getting behind on my child support while taking care of my ill grandmother until she passed...Which child support has nothing to do with dog sitting...

Wow, this is sad new's, I felt I would be extremely good at this and all the time I spent filling every thing out and asking people to do reviews for me was all for nothing, I will not give my info as to not seeing enough support to verify it's safe as well as calling the background company w-no hlp

Hi Anthony,

Background checks are only required nationwide for traveling sitters at this time. A background check does connect to your credit report, but only to verify that your social security number is correct. It does not access your credit score.

Every background check result is evaluated on a case by case basis. In the case of a failed background check, we typically deactivate accounts pending a written statement about the infraction. From there, the case is evaluated by the team in charge of background checks.

I am scared to submit my SSN over the net for this check

Hi Anthony, I'm new to Rover and also afraid to just hand over my SSN. Have you since this post? How is the business going for you?

You don't have to get a background check. Having one helps you in the search rankings and gives some assurance to potential clients, but many sitters get by just fine without it.

You can also contact Rover support to find out if there's a way to pay for it without a credit card if you still want to have it done.

Is it compulsory to have a background check? I don't mind it, but don't want to spend $25 dollars without having a 100% assurance on ROI (return of investment)

I would recommend a background check. In looking for a sitter i won't even bother looking at their profile without having a background check done. And even then, i still wish clients could see the results of it not knowing what http://Rover.com is looking for and what is considered okay or not okay... I find it reassuring as a potential client the comment above that says they disqualify you for anything on your record.

You do not have to get one but if you can do the background check it would be better for you. It will help generate more interest from potential clients who see you have the background check badge on your page. I believe it would only improve your dog boarding business.
